Catznine: you're very welcome, they are gorgeous aren't they!!! (oh and i added a bit of ground ginger to that recipe, i think it helped.)
iwanttosave and susiesaver: specculaas is a kind of mixed spice available in the Netherlands and Belgium (and probably some other countries too, from what Catznine said). Rather like mixed spice is available here, i think. OH said that there was something "missing" from the recipe, a flavour, so i might have to have a word with my MIL to find out what the spices are exactly. Anyway, its just cookies made with that spicy mixture. Olibollen/Appelflappen are kind of like doughnuts i guess.. thats the best way to describe them. If you want the recipe, yell! oh, and yeah, iwanttosave, i'll save you some.. LOL..
hope SnowyOwl, Mrs_Mix and Cheerfulness4 all feel better soon.. pink-winged's description of the goose/roasties made me feel all hungry - especially the roasties..... which reminds me...  at a certain advert for roast spuds in goose fat (one of the luxury ads) shows a bunch of potatoes being dropped into a hot tin of fat, all at once.. i end up shouting at the TV: "NO NO NO!" because if you do that, you drop the temp of the fat and the potatoes don't crisp up. Add them one at a time, slowly, so that the fat has time to regain temp in between potato addings. And ALWAYS ALWAYS parboil, drain and shake to get that lovely crispiness!!!
OH thinks i'm insane.. i'm inclined to agree. (about roasties, anyway.)
anyway, i forgot to mention before i went to bed, last night i did a bag of rubber mince with about 250g frozen beef mince. fried up onions, peppers, garlic, mushrooms and a chilli with mince, bulked it out with some green lentils, then put half of it into the pressure cooker. the remaining half i added some boullion, oxo cube, worcestershire sauce and cooked gently, without adding any extra water. i then made suet pastry and turned the whole thing into a pie, which was last night's dinner (and very very yum it was too). the mince/veg mix in the pressure cooker had chopped tomatoes, kidney beans, cannelloni beans, tomato puree, black olives, boullion, mixed herbs, and worcestershire sauce added to it, which is now in the fridge - i'll cook it up tonight and use half of it to make a cottage pie. the remainder, if i can bulk it out that far, i'll use tomorrow night, with pasta or something. Not bad going for 250g mince!
Other plans today: make bread, make upside down tart tartin with chopped apples (that are on the verge of going) and left over suet pastry from last night (an experiment!), of course, the cottage pie, the christmas runner (from the sewing thread) with matching napkins and the plastic bag recycler. If i get all that done i'll be happy. then maybe tonight i can relax a bit and do some christmas cards while watching the box.
have a good day, everyone!

thanks hon... it came from LJ, from a friend of mine who does avatars (or userpics as they're called over there) for fun. I'd give you the link but um... some of her avatars/userpics are rather adult so not really suitable for posting here.
if you want it anyway (and you don't mind blushes!) i'm happy to pm you the link.

Hello
I'm not feeling happy today. I've had the weekend from hell and the work day from somewhere far worse.
Thought I'd done all my Christmas shopping, then I saw more things on Friday and ended up buying them too. Still got Secret Santa present to buy for work. No idea what I'll get for that yet
Hoping to leave here on time today, working hard to try and make it happen.
Happy Birthday to all celebratingComping, Clicking & Saving for Change0 -
Afternoon everyone :hello:
Well, I'm still recovering from finishing work last Wednesday. Having heard from a couple of friends still at the school, the head is getting worse and worse with her picking on people.... and that was in the two days that I wasn't there!
I went up to see my parents on Thursday. My mum had booked herself a manicure, but decided that she needed to do the weekly shopping at the time of the appointment so she dropped me off and paid for me to have a manicure! I then got dragged to her art history class in the evening. It was really quite good as the tutor is my parents' neighbour and it was about renaissance buildings in Florence - which is where DH and I got engaged! I also got taken for lunch at a new farm shop. I was really quite pampered....
DH turned up on Friday night and we eventually came back home on Saturday afternoon............. before heading to Birmingham yesterday with his parents. They're lovely, but shopping in a packed city centre, traipsing around with them is not my idea of fun. Luckily, DH's twin sister was there to relieve some of the tedium. The last time that we saw her was at our wedding.
I've had loads of jobs to do today, but I don't seem to have got very far with them.... I've done the weekly shop, been to get the last few Christmas cards - DH and I sat writing them on Saturday night , posted a couple of cards for overseas - which reminds me, I've got another couple. Better double check on the last posting date.
The mound of ironing is still calling out to me. Better do the washing up from lunchtime too............

Afternoon Guys!
Not much done today. Had hospital this morning. OH popped to Tesco to get a few bits and bobs. DW emptied, another WL done at FIL's, toilet cleaned and floors swept through.
Few more items listed on Ebay. 2 parcels sent off which have been sold and paid for.
Asked for an extension on my next TMA due Wednesday:eek: ...and tutor OK'd:D ...thank goodness!! Will need to get my head into gear as these 2 essays are quite deep:o
Anyway, not feeling too good so will say goodbye and hope everyone is ok.
Breakie: Pankcakes & syrup
Lunch: Cheese pasta salad
Dinner: Cod in crumbs, mash and peas

Happy birthday Jessica :bdaycake:
I haven't done anything today yet
Went to work then met my mum in town for coffee and cake. We watched the ice-skaters and LOLed a lot at a man who kept falling overI wanted to buy a few pressies but only came home with one for my dad, and a jumper and a CD for me OOPS :rotfl: Then we had more coffee and cake
I've come home to a dishwasher that needs emptying, dirty dishes from breakfast, 3 loads of washing and the rabbit has kicked sawdust out of the cage so I need to hoover too :rolleyes:Bulletproof0
