    Hi everyone
I had NSD number 6 yesterday, don't think I will manage one today as I need to buy some things for starting my WW meetings next week.

On the plus side - we have our health, I have a good job, we can pay the mortgage and basic household bills, family members are all well so we do have a lot to be grateful for. I must focus on the good things and work my way through this glitch with the car - I have so much in comparison to some people in the world, and my job involves problem solving all the time, plus the juggling around of home responsibilites and parenting, so a measly pain-in-the-@rse car is not going to defeat me.

So sorry to hear about the car Nargle, & the problems your OH is having, but you are so right with what you wrote above, it certainly put my problems in perspective!! With a mindset like that i am totally sure you will work out the right thing to do!! Good luck hun i'll be thinking about you!
Oh dear, BDINI, what a bummer:( I'm so sorry.:(

I guess it's going to have to be the lesser of the two evils with your mum. It's probably best to be with all your friends so she has the company, maybe they'll be able to distract her from the fact she isn't in the hotel she really wants to be in. She may even enjoy the change, possibly?

    ((((((hugs))))))

PS: Hope you enjoyed the takeaway, think you deserved it after that news today.

    Good morning everyone!
Sorry to hear about the hols BDINI, I'm sure once you get there things will work out ok. Remember, it wasnt actually your fault the hotel closed down! You're a lovely, supportive daughter to your Mum and you also deserve to enjoy your holiday - I'm sure you will! ;)

Thanks Spoon & Jinty, you're both right there's nothing i can do, so mum is just going to have to make the best of it. I did manage to speak to the daughter of one of our friends (they are there already) who says there is a lovely pool across the road that they have been allowed to use, so hopefully that will be enough for her, & at least it's a break away from work!! I'm not going to worry any more!

oh & the takeaway was yummy (i even finished it all & that rarely happens :D)
The strawberry tarts sound lovely Jinty, hope they helped you come up with lots of good ideas!!

Declaring number 13 early today, i have loads of jobs to do, don't need to buy anything & it's raining & blowing a gale outside, so definitely not going out weather in any case!!

  • I know it's early, but I'm declaring number 11 today...thank goodness I've picked up another one!

Nargle - bad news about your car :( Hope you get it sorted x
BDINI - glad you are looking on the positive side, there is nothing that you can do about it, so try to enjoy yourself x
cw18 - I hope your friend gets everything sorted asap so you can go on your date!

Feeling a bit delicate this morning....great night but rather too much vino - I am not drinking another drop

Oh yes, we're all having a family lunch ( about ten of us) and we're organising a cake, balloons etc at the restaurant. Sis and I are taking her for a champagne afternoon tea on her actual birthday.
I believe strawberry tarts count as part of your 5-a-day so no guilt there, eh? ;)

I had a thought about the NSD challenge this morning on a walk with the dog and decided that I don't think I'm going to get to 17 this month. I'm going to try really really hard to get today, tomorrow, Tuesday and Wed as NSD then Thurs, Fri and Sat will be spendy days and then try again for NSD for next Sun, Mon and Tues which should bring me in at 15 for May

Not sure why it's been so hard this month to get NSD in? One of those months thats harder for some reason

Anyway that's the plan and I'll see how I get on this week

Morning all! *checks watch...yes it is still deff morning* I have been awake longer than desired so far this morning due to a very noisey blackbird protecting it's nest since goodness-only-knows o'clock.

Sorry to hear that yesterday didn't exactly go as planned for some of you.

Beanie - I second the 'lesser of two evils' that your mum would prefer to be around the people she was looking forward to being with, and if there is a pool just across the road, that sounds like a good option.

Nargle - sorry to hear about the car. Unless its something really really serious, I would try and persevere with getting it fixed rather than struggle to pay for a new one. 8yrs isn't really old for a car at all, and it prob is something relatively minor to resolve. Thing is with cars these days, so much is electrical that it takes longer to ascertain and rule out possible causes - at least now you know it isn't the battery.

Cheryl - sorry about the cancelled night out last night, but at least he called and was honest about the reason.

Well no NSD for me yesterday - there was a charity race night on at the local pub where we watch the football after the cup final (jints...you know who I mean ;)) We raised £700 which was great, but there weren't quite as many of us as hoped so ended up spending quite a bit more than planned. Oh well, beans on toast until pay day.....

Today won't be a NSD either as I need to at least get bread and sarnie fillings for the week - although actually we have some tuna, and egg and sweetcorn so I could prob make some up (obvoiusly not tuna egg and sweetcorn all together...only Igor would try that :rotfl:)

Slightly worried about our cat as she hasn't been seen since I went out at about 5.30pm last night...I got up at 5am and 7am to call for her but still no sign...hope she's ok.

Oh, and Jinty, yes strawberry tarts deff count as at least one of your five a day....just like the lychee martinis I drunk at my friends wedding a while back :rotfl::rotfl:

    Good Morning all :hello:

Spoony got my 13th NSD yesterday, thank you :A

I think a big hug to all is needed today xx

    Hi lovely NSD gang:A
As you can see there is lots of activity on this challenge at the moment and it's difficult sometimes to see how many NSDs you're all declaring on posts.
Could I ask you to highlight your number of NSDs in a colour and in bold so that I can see them easily when I whizz through the posts - red would be best but I don't really mind as long as I can see the numbers easily.

Some helpful suggestions and ideas to follow below from our sponsor and godmother, BigMummaF :A
    NO SPEND CHALLENGE.

    1. Have a good, long think about what YOU want to include in your Spend & Excluded categories.
Some of us count everything from Direct Debits & school expenses, while others do not include things like essential Bills or emergency medical costs. If you plan what is or is not a Spend for you now, it will help you decide on a realistic Target.
    2. It is NOT a race!
We all have very different demands on our time & bank balance, so please do not think you have to buy everything on 1st January & make it last till 31st December! A few of us have been following this Challenge for a long...long...LONG time so have developed plans & ploys to help us along the way wink2.gif
    3. Most important of all, WE..DO..NOT..FAIL!
Sometimes we can't quite reach our Target, but that is fine :) Everyone knows how Life will try to trip us up, & that is when you will find us here to help you back on to your feet.

OK, an idea of how some of us do things.
    1. What you will or will not include as a 'Spend'.
Some people are doing other Challenges too, & don't include the money spent on those for this one.
Some will try to shop for other bits on the days their direct debits etc go out of their bank accounts; they're the real hard core of the bunch sport-smiley-003.gif & have been l-o-n-g time Nsders so don't panic :p
Some won't count those annoying last minute demands from school & collections as you can't plan for them in advance, likewise emergency prescriptions or visits to the vet :(
Personally speaking & providing I don't buy anything else, I don't count parking for hospital appointments.(..but then I usually do my shopping because I'm already out )
General thoughts on €bay sales is the buyer has paid P&P so no cost to you :D
    2. It takes Time to reach mega-numbers!
The First suggestion is the first, because a bit of planning will work wonders on your road to your Target. Have a look at Solvent's (aka Spoon:rotfl:) first posts each month for a hefty list of other Threads that may be of help. For example, there's a few giving ideas for packed lunches so you can avoid standing in the queue at the bakers for 45mins of your lunch hour! A good incentive to tweak your healthy eating & the pounds you save will show in your bank balance AND your waistline action-smiley-076.gif
It helps to have various 'money pots' for the different costs that happen like Scouts, dinner money, yoga, window cleaner etc etc. The idea is you "spend" all that money in one hit by....
let's say **putting the week's bus fares into the pretty coffee jar, Jo's tumble tots SIZE=2]Weds mornings[/SIZE in the cracked teapot & Ben's £1 coin for the gym locker SIZE=2]Friday lunch[/SIZE in the pocket of the changing bag, on Tuesdays every week when you've got some change from doing the food shop, so an already spendy day. At least four 'spending days' condensed into one ;) (**mine's jam jars for windows, milkman & a bit towards the bills!)
    3. Any day the money stays in your pocket is a bonus!
If you look at it as a day you beat the system, you can't help but :j so don't fret it--ENJOY! If nothing else in here, we do manage find something to make us smile :D

We have virtual outings to wonderful places that never cost us a bean :rotfl:New York, Edinburgh & Brighton have been a couple & Spoon usually pilots the Tardis but you can use your own transport; my personal favourite has been a sit-on lawn mower borrowed from the cricket club :D The only thing to be aware of is Hubert the donkey who is partial to anything remotely edible but is not yet house-trained :o

    And Remember;
there are no silly questions, so don't be afraid to ask us anything!
