Making mayhem in May with the NSD challenge

Hiya everyone, hope you are all okay.
NSD number 12 today. Was sorely tempted, but restrained myself!Grocery Challenge for October: £135/£200

A somewhat subdued Nargle reporting in. Car problems again. Brand new battery, one week old, flat as the proverbial pancake. I am thinking that battery problems a couple of weeks ago were not the battery after all but something either discharging the battery, or not charging it up properly - I am thinking alternator, maybe? Friend coming round tomorrow to have a look. Either way, I will have to cancel work Monday and try and get this thing fixed. Then start to have some serious thoughts about the car. It is nearly 8 years old, and I was hoping to keep it going for another 3 years till the IVA is finished, then chop in for a newer one. Do I persevere with this car, as it is normally a reliable runner, knowing that odds and sods will need doing the older it gets? Or do I try and source a different car? And how do I find the money for that?
OH having problems at work at present which he hopes to resolve soon, but he might end up jacking in the job so there will be money issues there. Then of course the price of everything seems to keep going up and up.
On the plus side - we have our health, I have a good job, we can pay the mortgage and basic household bills, family members are all well so we do have a lot to be grateful for. I must focus on the good things and work my way through this glitch with the car - I have so much in comparison to some people in the world, and my job involves problem solving all the time, plus the juggling around of home responsibilites and parenting, so a measly pain-in-the-@rse car is not going to defeat me.
I still have ten days ahead in which to achieve my remaining 3 NSDs to reach my target.

Did spend quite a bit on her in the last couple of years, but whenever hubby nagged I just pointed out the repairs were still coming in at considerably less than the repayments would for a loan to get a replacement car
I had her from new, and she was almost 13 years old (having done around 117k miles if I remember correctly - have it noted down somewhere) when I finally waved her off attached to the back of a pick up truck.Cheryl0 -

(booked all the bits independently & not a package)
The owner has a room for us in his other hotel so not a total disaster, but i have a real dilemma now as i know my mum will not find it sunny enough round the pool at the alternative hotel & won't be happy staying there. However i also know that if we move to another hotel, which isn't where all our holiday friends are staying she won't be happy with that either (we booked this week specifically to catch up with them). I also can't ask her as io know she will start to stress about how rubbish her life is that she can't even have a decent holiday!!! My head hurts with thinking about it
So anyway, despite the fact that i was on course for a NSD i have given in & rung a takeaway as i just can't face frozen veg & supernoodles again!! (at least that means the emptying of the freezer before my hols has gone well!!)
3 days before i go away & 3 to get, so going to put my pub money to one side today & i might just scrape through, fingers crossed!!
Oh dear, BDINI, what a bummer:( I'm so sorry.:(
I guess it's going to have to be the lesser of the two evils with your mum. It's probably best to be with all your friends so she has the company, maybe they'll be able to distract her from the fact she isn't in the hotel she really wants to be in. She may even enjoy the change, possibly?
((((((hugs))))))

PS: Hope you enjoyed the takeaway, think you deserved it after that news today. The time you enjoy wasting is not wasted time

Onwards and upwards!
It could be something as simple as a loose connection, Nargle, or it could be the alternator. Either way, it's got to be cheaper than buying a new car. If it's normally a reliable runner I think I'd opt for keeping it for the moment, repairs have got to be cheaper than buying a replacement one.
Have you tried asking for some advice on some of the other forums?
Hope you get it sorted.

Good morning everyone! :wave:Yesterday, I had to pay the boarding cattery to release puss and I was back at the dentist to have a root taken out.
The dental saga continues - next week I have to have the next set of impressions done and a broken crown attended to. Hopefully that will be the last of the extraction work! At least my mouth isnt sore any more;)
Glad to hear your mouth isn't sore anymore Jinty.solventsoon wrote: »:j:jchris81418 - for no 17, you’re right, being busy at work does make for lots of NSDs. You’re doing great, keep going!

Good morning everyone!
Seems like yesterday was a bit of a mixed day for the NSD gang!
Sorry to hear about the hols BDINI, I'm sure once you get there things will work out ok. Remember, it wasnt actually your fault the hotel closed down! You're a lovely, supportive daughter to your Mum and you also deserve to enjoy your holiday - I'm sure you will!
Nargle - nae luck re the car, what a bummer! Got everyting crossed that it doesnt cost an arm and leg to fix.
Keiss - hope DS1 is ok and on the mend soon.
Cheryl, sorry to hear about your date - he sounds a decent bloke though!
Had a quietish day yesterday, did some gardening and then went to my sister's for a coffee and a catchup. It was great to see her.Our Mum is 80 in July so we were planning what to do for her birthday. This required several strawberry tarts to help the thought process, so NO NSD again! Sorry!
I also needed bird food for my feathered pals so stocked up on that at £strecher.
Not sure what Im doing today yet - I might just manage to keep my purse closed!
Have a lovely day everyone!:)
you will always be rich enough to be generous.0
