So i went to apply at Barclays and they had a "Record of Fraud" on me! Didn not reject the application but I have to go back in 2 days. I have no idea what this is and it does not show on my Experian report. Very odd and worrying.
No worries - I didn't realise u needed dd and standing orders too.
You could consider www . thinkmoney . com ... they offer a bank account with the use of DD's and standing orders, but you have to have your wages paid into the account via bacs .... something I couldn't do as I get paid in cash.
The accounts costs a fee to open and also a monthly amount I think, but it's still worth a look as I don't think they do a credit check!0 -

It's strange that you could come back in 2 days to open the account....
'Record of fraud' means that someone has used your details to apply for financial products?0 -
I have a dispute with the Halifax and think our relationship has to come to an end, long story.
I tried to open a Step account with the NatWest but have been refused, even though they HAVE opened up a First Reserve savings account for me.
No word as to why I have been refused though, just the usual blurb.
Can I ask them to re-consider or why they refused?
I would like an account where I can have Direct Debits as well as a cash card.
Any suggestions?
I don't have a great credit history sadly hence my difficulty.
Your help appreciated.0 -
I applied for co op cashminder on sunday and just found out i was accepted monday. That is fast...:D:D:D0

So far I have been rejected by the NatWest, HSBC, Smile and waiting for a reply from Barclays.
Anyone have any good ideas short of a sex change!?0 -
Have you tried the Co-Op cashminder? trying Smile is no good as they only offer a ful feature bank account. Also Yorkshire/Clydesdale readycash is a good product and comes with Maestro (soon to be Debit Mastercard I understand)0

I'd give Lloyds TSB a try as I have just opened an account with them after being turned by 2 other banks.
And since opening this account I have found out that a couple of friends who tried to open bank accounts last year got turned down by other banks but were both successful with Lloyds TSB.
Worth a try!0 -

You could try to ask them to re-consider. As for telling the reason you got refused, they might not tell you. Even though they tell you, it will be something like 'check your credit file'.
As for suggestions for bank accounts try Barclays.0 -

The only thing that REALLY annoys me about my COOP account (apart from the 'pretend' VISAdebit card that is actually a VISAelectron card) is the poorly updated online banking feature. Debit transactions (purchases etc) can take upto a week to be taken off your available balance so consequently if you're watching your cash levels you need to keep a constant track of how much you really have in there as the figure shown could be several transactions out of date.
Like I mentioned earlier I really liked the LTSB Cash Account but being tied to their cash machines only is just too inconvenient to be a realistic option for me, but if you can live with this restriction then it's a good account.0 -
I emailed Visa about this, the new Co-op Visa Debit card and this is their reply.
Maybe, it should be passed on Tesco on-line grocery shopping.
Dear
Thank you for contacting Visa Europe.
We would like to take this opportunity to apologise for not replying sooner, however, we have been in extended discussions with the Co-operative Bank regarding the issue that you have raised.
Across the UK, several banks are in the process of phasing out Visa Electron cards in favour of Visa Debit cards which are more widely accepted at home and abroad. Visa Electron was originally launched to offer banks a current account card that could not be used without their authorisation. Because of improvements to the processing of card payments, the majority of transactions today are authorised anyway and as a result, most banks no longer need to use Visa Electron.
We are aware that Co-operative Bank’s Visa Debit cards use a BIN that has historically been linked to Visa Electron and that where retailers use a BIN to identify transactions, it can cause an issue with acceptance. This shouldn’t be a problem (as retailers are not meant to use BIN’s for this purpose) and Visa Europe is working to understand where the problem exists and what can be done to resolve it.
I appreciate that this does not solve the immediate problem for you and suggest that you contact Co-operative Bank directly to see if there is anything they can do to help.
Kind regards
