  • I went in to the Coop to open a basic account, was told driving licence could not be used as Id because it did not match the address of my utility bill, and had to bring in a passport instead. They did not offer me an account straight away, and sent my application in to their head office for "further credit checks".
  • I just applied online for a Halifax easycash account. Is it best to wait until i hear from them before applying for a Co Op cashminder, or can you apply for both at the same time?
  • Just thought I'd let anyone know who was interested that Lloyds TSB seem to be pretty easy to open a bank account with.

I haven't had a bank account for about 4 years, and not had any credit at all since.

Went to open a basic account with Abbey National and RBS last week, got turned down for some reason ... one of the branches I spoke to said it might be because I have been almost 'off-grid' for the last 4 years ... moving around, leaving the country to go travelling, and that I should try and rent a house for 6 months, get some utility bills in my name etc, and then try again.

Thought I would try one last bank and went into Lloyds TSB today, went to open a basic account, was in the process of going through all the details etc, then was offered a normal account, said ok, and 20 minutes later account was opened along with a savings account ... deposited some money in both and now just got to wait for card to come in the post now.

Not sure what went wrong with Abbey National and RBS, but hey, Lloyds TSB have my loyalty now!!

Halifax Easycash bank account has an Electron card. You can either apply online or by getting an application pack and send it by post. It can't be opened in branch.

  • Hello,

I have been rejected for a Cashminder account by the Co-op, so I knew my credit rating was bad.

I checked and had one default which I have now paid and also was not on the Electroal Role. So I have now sent off my letter to get back on which hopefully means my rating should improve.

However in the meantime I need a bank account! Even just a cash card so my wages can be paid into. Can anyone give me any advice which to go for... especially since Co-op rejected me. Ideally a simple cash card without a credit check is what I need.

    Thanks

I would suggest the Barclays Cash Card Account. No credit check is needed.
  • Ok cool I think I will do that. However I used to have a Barclays account as a student 8 years ago and had a bad history with them. It has only just left my credit history.

Are there any other accounts which do not have a credit check.

Also I just spoke to Experian who say my electoral roll application will not show on thier account until December. However that will be the reason Co-op rejected me :(

If all you need is an account to have your wages paid into you could consider a pre-paid card. They don't do any credit checks what so ever, simply because you can't use it if you have no money on it.

I've used 360 money for the last year or so, been brilliant, you pay a small fee for the card/account, and a monthly account fee (small) and then off you go. You can get your wages paid into it, plus any benefits, and then you can use the card as you like with any other card to spend money in shops/online etc.

Been a god send for me, now that I have a proper bank account again I don't need it, but it's been worth the small monthly fee easily!

Thats great thanks mate, I will defo consider that. Need one also for direct debits and standing orders for rent and bills too, had a look and I don't think that is offered :(

So i went to apply at Barclays and they had a "Record of Fraud" on me! Didn not reject the application but I have to go back in 2 days. I have no idea what this is and it does not show on my Experian report. Very odd and worrying.
