Just for everyones info I have found that Ulsterbank offer a basic bank account with a Solo Debit card - I think they are an offshoot of RBS, and you can open an account online.
If they are RBS anyone know if they are changing from Solo to Visa ?
Yes they are changing solo to visa debit in september0 -
Can someone please help me with a query.
I am a discharged bankrupt but recently had to go for the Debt Releif Order. I need to open a Basic Bank Aco!!!!. I applied with RBS and they declined saying their Basic Account was a keyacoount which is a current account - so tthey credit scored. I made it clear I wanted a basic account. RBS are misleading in what they say, I told the advisor that.
Halifax did the same, easycash.
I rang Barclays and they have said I need to go into the bank with two forms of ID and the basic bank account will be opened.
Are Basic Bank accounts usually credit scored, and if so why, we are not aplying for any credit0 -
Hi, just wondered if anyone could help me out on something?..
Ive recentley noticed a small transaction for Tesco on my Bank Statement but I know I didnt have my card on me that day.. is there any way I could find out what was purchased on my card? Thanks0 -
Only Tesco would be able to tell you what was bought on the day. Is it for a large amount? Did you actually authorise the transaction? If not, contact your bank and instigate a fraud investigation.0

Some banks will not accept you if you have bad debts. Other will refuse you if you have any CIFAS markers or are an undischarged bankrupt.

hi there! I once got confused by this too! It doesnt always show on the day you actually purchased the shopping sometimes it does take a day or two to show up on your statement. Hope this helpsxxx0 -
Quick question, I applied for a Barclays Cash Card account a short while ago and was rejected. I checked CIFAS after that and found I had a couple of fraud markers against me, which I am in the process of appealing (Santander Cards wrote back straight away to say they has removed the marker :j but Abbey still haven't responded, though they are also Santander of course!).
I can only assume this is the only reason Barclays rejected me, since I was told I would receive a letter explaining why, but haven't received anything from Barclays
Assuming I get the other fraud marker removed, is it worth appealing the rejection with Barclays or will I have to apply somewhere else now, as Barclays may have blacklisted me?

Having CIFAS markers will make it very hard to get a basic account anywhere as "record of fraud" is a no no. When all the marks have been removed just apply again. Barclays will not have blacklisted you.0

Got my username for online banking from Halifax - I applied for the easycash account online on sunday. Very pleased as all I had left was a savings account after much trouble when my identity was stolen, my account was raided and credit cards were taken out in my name 2.5 years ago (which I am still fighting with one company about now, even after the guy who did it was caught and jailed *rolls eyes*).
So very happy with halifax, really was expecting to get declined. The "Bloodlust" Clique - Morally equal to all. New to this site & very much in need of A (any) basis bank account.
Just spent 3 hours constant reading & note taking. What a mass of info ! :T
At 8pm i was gonna try Citibank, by 9 it was Yorkshire, by 10 Barclays, 10:30 The Co-op, 11pm Halifax ........... .
Plenty to think about, but certainly feel like i've taken my first steps to get out of the wilderness. Thanks for all the info & hints.
