I was with Natwest for 4 years, i had my salary paid into this account and never had any charges, 3 times i tried to upgrade from my step account to a full account and everytime declined. I recently went to Abbey and applied for an account and they gave me a full account with visa debit card, chequebook and an overdraft. I have a couple of defaults from a long time ago and a ccj on my credit report.0

3_cheeky_princess.
I rang the Yorkshire bank, was put through to the branch and made an appointment to go in. You have to open the account in person. Only drawback for me with the Yorkshire bank is that non of the branches in my area seem to be open on a saturday. And i work full-time. If i ever need to go into a branch again, will have to have time off.
But will be able to register for phone and internet banking so should be ok, just a problem if there are ever any cheques that need paying in.0 -

I think you can post cheques to them as long as you send them with a paying in slip. I'll let you know as I'm going to ask about this on Monday when I go to pay in a couple of cheques I've been holding on to (and pick up a supply of paying in slips!).Numpties...I'm surrounded by them...save me...:whistle:0 -
Update on the Yorkshire Bank account.
I checked with Credit Expert, after receiving an alert today, and was suprised to see the account reporting to Experian, as a Current Account, with no overdraft.
Wasn't aware they did report, so more nice green zero's, which can only be a good thing.
Thought this may be another good reason to use them for anyone else interested.0 -

Yes they do. They don't report to Equifax though. Most Banks report there basic accounts as Current Accounts. HTH0 -
Cheers Sutton
Never knew they did, as it's there's no credit involved.
My Cahoot account has always reported though.0 -
Hello, I was hoping somone would be able to help me out here I need to setup a bank account however I have an issue as my passport ID is my maiden name and my other ID is my married name. The banks are telling me that I cannot setup a bank account because I do not have my marriage lisence. I want to get a bank account so money can be paid into a basic bank account rather than a post office account which is my marrage name. Please can anyone give advise as to how I would be able to get a basic bank account without having to get the marrage lisence.
Are there any bank that would give me an account without having two forms of ID? or would there be some work around I could arrange with the bank?
Thanks0 -

Just get a marriage license. I assume it's easy to get?
Anyway, Halifax's basic bank account only needs one form of ID. The address check will be done through the credit reference agency and voters roll. If you are not on the voters roll, get yourself on there, but it will take time though. I would change your last name on bills though for future purposes.
Not sure about the othe banks that only require one form of ID though.0 -

If you apply by the 10th of March you should be on the Electoral Roll by April 1st.0
