Is there any basic bank accounts that dont do credit checks or are very easy to get? Prefer to do it online or via post.
I have started to read thro this thread but it is extremely long!
Thank you for any help

I don't think you could apply for basic bank accounts online - needs to be done in branch. HBOS basic bank account needs to be applied via post. I strongly advise not to open HBOS basic bank account as it doesn't offer branch service, and LTSB due to only using their cash machines. I advise other ones that are in the link provided above. I would advise you to open a Barclays Cash Card Account.
They would do a ID/address check for sure. As for credit check, it depends on the bank, as some do and some don't.
As long as you are not undischarged bankrupt and/or record of fraud (and maybe record of bad debts), you will be eligible for one.0 -

Only in theory does it not offer branch service. In reality, you generally can use full branch facilities with no problem.
Having it written into the T&Cs means that they could prevent you from using the branch at some stage in the future, should they decide to enforce this.0 -

I should have said 'minimal branch service', instead no branch service.
You cannot deposit money using the counters. You can use the counters only if you want to withdraw more than £300. To deposit money, you need to use the deposit envelopes and send it.0 -
Just opened a Yorkshire Bank Readycash account. No probs. I stated the name of account i wanted, she said they would check for bankruptcy only. I now have my new account details and await arrival of maestro and pin number. Sorted. Thanks to all on this thread.0

No, this is what they publicise it as, but in reality you usually have access to full counter facilities, i.e. pay in any amounts, and withdraw anything up to £1200.
However, even if they did one day decide to enforce this strictly, you can use the instant pay-in machines for paying in cash and cheques, and an ATM to withdraw anything less than £300, so there's still plenty of flexibility.0 -
I've opened a Readycash account with Yorkshire Bank and everything is set up now for internet banking.
One drawback of the account is the lack of a cheque book facility which is a bit of a problem for me, as I need to book a space at craft fairs quite often and I can't use my debit card for this kind of payment. At the moment I am using Postal Orders, but this costs money.
Is there any basic bank account that offers a cheque book facility?Numpties...I'm surrounded by them...save me...:whistle:0 -
I think the Norwich and Peterborough account comes with a cheque book0
