After reading this thread i decided to open a basic cash account with lloyds tsby (i dont have any bad credit history) i made it clear in the branch that this is want i wanted. I received a letter today advising i have been given a normal current account with a £250 overdraft, im trying to get out of debt not have accesss to more credit! I just called and spoke to the bank manager and he told me i cant have a basic account as its only for people with bad credit and ccjs! Has anyone else had this experience? Does anyone know of a bank that will let you have a basic account if you dont have bad credit? thanks0

Hi
I was wondering too can you specify you want a basic account and what type of CRA searches do LTSB carry out for this account, it would seem like a full search.
Also, I have the paper application form for a Barclays Cash Card Account, does anyone know why they want my NI number as it is not an application for an ISA, and I know there is a list somewhere issued by the Government of who you should give that number to and your bank is not on it (again unless for an ISA).
Thanks

Could anyone tell me how long on average it takes for a decision on a Halifax Easycash account? I applied online and received a form which I signed and sent back, with a photocopy of my passport, last Tuesday. I called the Application helpline and was told that I should hear within 5 working days.
I'm a bit desperate to open the account as I need to set up direct debits quite urgently.0 -
ring 08458 505525 and ask them if the account is open they will tell you.0

Thanks will do. I received an email today confirming my online registration which looks like a good sign.0

I posted my ID verification form off on Monday 22nd. I have received my card today. No other word from them, so I presume the account is opened.
From the start its taken a while. I applied online and got the verfication letter 10 days later, sent that off, and got my card. Waiting for Pin and hopefully some details of some sort.
For the record I have 2 CCJ's and one settled. Numerous defaults and a lengthy poor credit history. In fact, this is the first time I've applied for anything remotely 'financial' for many many years. For all that time I've piggy backed my partners account.
Hope that helps.0 -
Hi Mort, thanks, i'm in a similar position received electron card this morning and waiting for pin no. No other info as yet. I presume the sort code and a/c no on the card is the right one. I'm going to try and activate the card then pay some money into the account.0

You really don't know what you have let yourself in for , this account is a nightmare, well has been for me!! Charges at £35 if you go overdrawn ( I was 5p short for a DD and had money going in that day that went in regular!!) and when you phone them you can't get through and then they talk to you like you are something they trod in and it don't smell of roses!!!.
Please be careful with this account as it can lead you into more debt ... not make better.
