  • Cancelled my card, obviously, put a temporary overdraft in place to cover the missing funds, but as the transaction is just hanging on my account, earmarked but not authorised, they can't block it until the authorisation goes through. It looks like it's a foreign transaction as it's been a week since the money was requested using my card but it's still waiting. Fortunately I have another account with the bank, so once the overdraft is in place (tomorrow) I should be able to transfer the funds immediately across so I can withdraw them. Otherwise, it would have meant a trip from Warwick to Coventry tomorrow to get to the bank, as there isn't a branch locally, or just using my credit card and transferring the money over to my credit card to pay for it before I get charged interest.

More of a nuisance than anything. I'm fairly certain based on the date it happened, where the details were taken from, and if I'm right, they're going to get a few fleas in their ear!!!

  • this maybe a silly question but.........

can anyone tell me why my new nationwide cash card account has appeared on my credit report?

i guess its a good thing because its got a nice green zero, however as they dont offer credit facilities why do they report it?

I guess this might be a personal opinion rather than anything else. I have only 3 current accounts from Barclays, HSBC and Nationwide. Now I regard the barclays as a very good account, actually none of the other two has ever let me down. But this is different when you consider other accounts like ISA saving, online saving etc But the best bet is to do your own research.
Go to site like moneysupermaket and compare different banks.

I've just recieved a letter from citibank saying my application for an 'access account' has been provisionally approved providing my ID is ok

Does this mean I'm going to get an account with a Visa card for sure?!

I guess you better wish it means a visa card on its way. If you have been approved for a provisional account means that consideration will be further made to issue you a Visa card..

  • My daighter who had just been turned over by HSBC tried to get a basic STEP account with Nat West. She came back with an accoount that gave her lots of lovely pluses (which for someone on benefits was no plus at all. The account would cost her £12.99 per month to enjoy all the positive benefits of the account.

They then applied some £1.15 charges within the first month which overdrew the account and then applied a £28 charge for going overdrawn.

My daughter told thme she just wanted a plain ordinary account and the lovely telesales lady started to tell her all the benefits of another account. My daughter again told her NO - aN ORDINARY ACCOUNT - to which the telesales lady said she had to tell her the benefits "so she could make an informed decision".

Ho hum sales makes the bank profits, but not when they have to reverse all the work they did when foricng a vulnerable person into the wrong sort of account.
  • Dibblersan, I don't know if it will help but Natwest have a 90 day money back guarantee on their Advantage Gold accounts if you change your mind and havn't claimed on the included insurance. I've just cancelled a AG account after about a month. They did try to say I had to pay for it at first thought, until I insisted I wanted to use the 90 day guarantee!

Those £1.15 charges seem a bit low(!) for a Natwest charge - are you sure they weren't made by a third party ATM provider? If that's the case, it's hard to know how sympathetic Natwest will be as it's won't be their charges that caused the overdraft. :(
