Don't know about Lloyds, but I set up a joint Step (basic) account with Natwest around 3 years ago.

  • I applied for the Citibank account and I've been refused. I'm really at a loss now.

I was made bankrupt in 2001, I have a regular income of over £1250 per month and haven't had any credit since (obviously).

My wages are currently paid into my husbands account but he's having problems with his bank and we would like to move to an account in my name which will take my salary and set up DD's to pay my bills. I don't want a credit card, an overdraft or any other service simply to pay my salary in and pay my bills and take cash out for shopping.

Is there any bank out there that will take me on?
  • If you don't mind a Maestro debit card in addition, i'd recommend Yorkshire/Clydesdale Readycash account.

Have you tried for a Barclays Cash Account?

That now comes with a VISA Debit card....

Failing that, I'm sure you'd be able to get a Co-Op Cashminder Account

This also comes with a VISA Electron Debit Card and Online Banking (Although it is normally a couple of days behind with the "Available Balance" displayed).

Don't worry if you don't have a Co-Op bank branch nearby, You can apply over the phone and run it by phone, Post and online. You can also withdraw and deposit cash at Post Offices, and the best bit is that depositing cash at the PO shows up on your account instantly!

Rebuild Credit Time: Vanquis CC with £1000 Limit (£0 Balance)
Sim Only Contract with T Mobile
All adding little green ticks to my credit file :D
  • Thanks for you help, I'll try this avenue and let you know how I get on.

It is a 2 in 1 Visa Debit minus the cheque-ok function and no overdraft. Similar to LTSB cash account system.
Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.
