I had given up hope a couple of years ago trying to obtain a proper bank account. It's only through reading the posts on this site I had the idea of applying to A&L - I was accepted via email within 10 minutes and offered a cheque book and VISA debit card. I was frankly amazed. I did a credit search on myself and the only adverse I have is 1 x default 4 years ago that states 'Partially settled'.

I have followed the advice from this site though to improve my credit score. I've applied to go on the voters roll and requested a landline from Virgin media who I have sky with. Still some time to go before I ever get accepted for a credit card I should think but I have a payasyougo one from cashplus at present that suits me fine - it only costs £1 per transaction and allows me to purchase things over the phone, online etc.

I just wish I'd found this site some time ago. I can now pay for my rent by cheque (once the book arrives) instead of going into the estate agent each month with a fistfull of cash!

2nd May STILL waiting on PIN for clydesdale Reasycash account, and The internet banking staff are less than useless, they won't sent out my activation code to use the service because "Road" is spelt "Raod" and it takes a week for the Branch to update they're computer system. I would have thought in this day and age they'd all be working off the same computer system or have some sort of formal link with each other; Failing that be able to spell junior school words.

Same here, Got my Maestro card last Thursday & still no pin
I was advised it would arrive a day or two after my bank card.

Anyway, it appears that CB are in the process of switching computer systems, so I just went into a branch & got them to order me another pin.

To get the internet banking setup, just pay £1 in at the branch as they need to see transactions to verify you. The ID number comes with a few days.

If you need to call them, use 0800 222426 to check anything & register for internet banking. It's option 4, if i recall ;)

The internet banking team are lemmings, They won't issue me an activation code until the branch correct the spelling mistake in my address ROAD is RAOD, and i phoned them up the other day to see if a transfer had gone in the guy asked me all the dpa and I said I wanted to know if there was a transfer had gone in and he answed me saying Oh because you've told me about the transfer i can't tell you the answer ! what a joke.

Got my Pin today, but if this mistake isn't fixed today i'll be closing the account its a bloody circus in there.
• I understand why banks take three days to clear money that is sent from one bank to another (sort of!). What I don't understand is why should it take three days for the money to be transferred from accounts with the same bank. This is a problem I am currently experiencing with A&L when transferring money from a Single account to a Joint account.

If anyone can enlighten me as to why this happens I would be most grateful and my temper might come off boiling point.

Regards

Citi turned me down, I think they are much stricter than they used to be. In fact they won a land mark case here in Northern Ireland when someone tried to claim back unfair bank charges they were sucessfully able to argue that it was fair to charge £12 of the charges.

Something along the lines of the Office of fair trading ruled that £12 was acceptable for a credit card company to charge for the penalty and therefore the same applied to the bank.

I'm in the progess of claiming back my rediculous charges from Halifax, fingers crossed.

Sorry to hear you are still having problems with your pin. I've had no end of good service from Clydesdale and the telephone Banking Service. I love the internet banking too. I had a problem when one of my direct debits that I transferred over was requested 3 times on the same day and they were great when I called to see what had happened.

Fingers crossed it will get sorted out for you soon.

Hi all,

I have applied for a halifax easycash account online it took 3 weeks for them to ask me to prove who I was via passport driving liscence etc.

Has anyone on here applied for this basic account with them before, its now been 5 weeks since I first applied, is this usually the norm for how long it takes

I work for Abbey and as far as I am aware, the FSA has stipulated that you should only be declined for a basic account if you have been declared bankrupt or have been convicted of fraud.

If people are being declined for basic accounts- check your credit report and make sure that a full credit score has not been done i.e your application may have been processed as a full bank account with all the facilties.

Sadly, due to high targets, many advisers will do this as they receive next to no credit for basic bank accounts. It is also the case that some banks "discourage" their staff from opening these accounts as they are of no financial benefit to the company.

Abbey's basic account is exactly as it sounds - Basic! But it does suit many customers that simply want a direct debit facility and an ATM card? You can apply to upgrade the account after 12 months but this will involve a credit score at that point.

Hi,
Is this current account still available?, I can't see any on the Citybank website called Sterling Current Account.
Am I missing something?

Thanks.
