Re Opening a Basic bank account - Hi,
The 1st one I tried to open an a/c with was Alliance & Leicester but was refused!
So I see you mentioned Citi Bank. Shall I try Citibank Access or Plus a/c? which one is Basic? I only need a account with a debit card. I am with Lloyds at the moment and I am reclaiming bank charges and I am scar to bits they going to close my account! I also have a savings a/c with them. I am a pensioner and get my pension credit paid in my current a/c and my South African Air Force pention into my savings a/c, so you can see I am going to pickup mega gib if they close my accounts! Perhaps I should stop my claim(£1005) what do you think?
Thank you Hantie:confused
No way should you give up now! This is your money, and all you are doing is asking for what is rightfully yours. Please, please don't give up. That's what the banks WANT you to do. By bullying and intimidating people, they'll think you'll give up and go away.
If you need any further proof that claiming charges back works, have a look at the success stories thread. I've found it to be inspiring.
I'm scared too - I'm in the process of claiming £5k from my bank, but I'm not giving up until the end. I will win, and you will too.
Personally, I've opened a NatWest Step account as a parachute account and it couldn't have been easier. Everything was done within a week, and you can upgrade to a proper Current Account within 6 weeks (So I've been told).0 -
Finally got my Maestro card today!
Only took about six weeks...
However, I've noticed (on Internet Banking) that I appear to have been given a Current Account Plus rather than the Readycash. Oh well, I can look forward to my 0.10% interest

i have a crap credit score! and i mean a really crap credit score!!
but went to a bank on monday and on weds picked up my mastercard and debit card with a bit of credit thrown in too. you also get internet banking as well.
ok, i had to tell a few white lies to get it, but i have it now and i can now continue with having a hassle free life, providing i can the account in order which i will do :-)
the negative is you dont get a cheque book(they wont exist in 2011 anyway) and im not sure if you can set up direct debits but i pay on demand anyway so i wasnt really bothered in asking, but if its a mastercard i think u can, maybe someone can post a reply on that.
i want to pass this info on but i dont want it to go the same way as the citibank thing. i too tried to get on the bandwagon but was too late!!!
my dilema is.... should i make a small charge for passing on this knowledge or should i just let everyone know.
after all it did cost me time and money in finding out what i know.
let me know what you think!!
thanks0 -

Went to Clydesdale today and the procedure for opening a Readycash account has changed. They no longer open the account for you on the spot. They also do a CCJ/Bankruptcy check too.
I've got my fingers crossed that I'll get the account. I really want a Maestro card that I don't have to pay for!!!0 -
hi tori,
sorry to see that your not convinced,
its not a scam, its not illegal, its not a dodgy credit card scam i promise you its genuine and it is easy to do.
its just turning the tables round and looking at obtaining a good bank account from a different angle.
sorry if i'm talking in riddles but a couple of friends who have spoken to me tonite have said the info is pricless and easy and cant beleive they never thought of it and feel that i should charge a small amount for the info.
what do u think?
would u pay a tenner if it would give you a bit of financial freedoom??0 -

Well done, well worth the wait then!
On the internet banking it says current account with the number but it is only a Readycash account I have. I quickly went to double check when I read your post but it does not mention 'plus' on it.
A great account anyway, service is great and I love seeing the money coming into the account the night before I am expecting it.0 -
Opened Clydesdale Account on the 17th Apr, Nice staff. Received Card today on the 28th Apr. Just about every line of my address details has a spelling mistake in it including my name. Am weary of the ability of a bank who can't spell "Road" properly.
Have to write to branch to correct before i can register for internet banking, which i'm sure will take another week.
Still waiting on pin.....0 -

Hopefully! I'm still waiting on my PIN...
The card came with my name misspelled on the letter, after the opening my account with the wrong account number & then opening the account without ordering me a card, my confidence is not very high.

My bank smile debited £2,850 out of my account (online the money has gone) and wrote me a bankers draft and I got it Saturday. I sent it to the guy who is selling me his car mazda mx-5 and he banked it monday. As far as common sense tells me a cheque takes 3 working days to clear. This cheque is guaranteed not to bounce as the balance has left my account physically. So I have said I will pick up the car thursday and he said if the cheque has cleared yes I can. I know it will clear thursday - cheques I have had have always cleared within 3 days.
