Thanks to you wonderful people on this site!

Due to Halifax putting a block on my account cos I am claiming back my charges I was in a real panic as I am on a DMP and thought I would have real difficulty opening a new account, but I went to Yorkshire Bank this morning and 20 mins later came out with a new account number and the card will be posted in the next few days!

Thanks everyone, I dont know what I would have done without your excellent threads and advice!:T

  • I would like a bit of the 6% the Abby is offering for current account holders! Problem is they want one’s salary of at least £1000 a month to be paid in? I am a pensioner so salary is out of the question. However my existing current account never has less than £3000 credit in it (I would not entertain a bank account were it not for the fact that I need it to satisfy the bookies so they can deposit my winnings!)
What do you think if I opened an account to get the 6%, stuck £3k or £4k in there then withdrew say £1k in the middle of the month and paid it back in at the end of the month? Would that not be the same scenario as someone paying in his or her salary each month?
PS. Premium Bonds! OK I know it does not always work out but I have had a 10% plus return on my investment for the past three years!

That will work perfectly as Martin states in his guide to opening Current Account with minimum payin criteria.
  • Hi, Can anybody help me. My daughter has submitted a claim on her bank to recover bank charges. As mentioned in Martin's video, she tried to open a new current account just in case her bank, Natwest closed her account. She applied to Lloyds TSB to open a current account. They said they could give her a current cash account but not with a debit card. Does anybody know if any banks are likely to offer a current account with a debit card to anybody who has been overdrawn?
