After 5-6 weeks of confusion, wait, delay, postponement, missing salary blah blah blah, I have finally got a basic account with Yorkshire bank.
If sgx.saint can add to the original post about advantage of Maestro over VISA Electron & Solo in terms of acceptability at retail outlets (especially online), it can be quite beneficial to future users of this thread.
I opened a CB ReadyCash account about 4 weeks ago, and still no sign of the bank card. They seem very polite, just very, very slow at doing anything!

Hi also opened mine around the same time, and after reading MSE and noticing my card was taking longer than others had I called to ask about it. Apparently there was a problem with issuing them, they apologied and I got mine about 7 days after opening the account. As these things all come out of a machine maybe it broke and they could not tell which ones were issued and which were not (so did not want to start issuing duplicates in error). I would advise you to call and explain the situation to them as the other scenario is it lost in the post, or (not trying to worry you here) someone else got it put through their letter box by mistake. Regards. James0

I was told when opening the account that there had been a problem earlier that week and the cards were coming a bit later than usual, got mine after 7 or 8 days, I applied about 4 weeks ago too.
The Clydesdale Bank customer service has been fantastic and I have enjoyed the Maestro card to buy my train tickets. My BACS payments appear in the account about 10pm the night before they are due and payments that are due on a Monday are there on a Saturday morning.
When I opened it the adviser gave me a card with a branch direct phone number on it in case I had any problems. Would your branch adviser maybe chase it up a bit faster than the helpline?0 -
Called Clydesdale up, and apparently the person opening the account didn't order me a bank card. And when I've called up/ visited the branch they have just assumed its related to the problems you both spoke about.
Apparently my card in being setup today. We shall see...This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Very new on Forum ! Please help
I followed your advice and asked my bank (Lloyds TSB) to refund my 14 days ago!
Now I have to sent them the second letter, right?
In this letter I have to state the "include a list of charges"? Can you please help me?
I am an old age pensioner and do not know much about this. Will you please give me an idea what they are?
I am petrified and think I should never have sent that letter!
My charges is £1005.00 since I open my account on the 21st June 2002.
The charges happened when the money I get every month is a day or even the same day (just a few hours late!)
Please help me or do you think I should rather leave it?
Thanks
Regards

Re Opening a Basic bank account - Hi,
The 1st one I tried to open an a/c with was Alliance & Leicester but was refused!
So I see you mentioned Citi Bank. Shall I try Citibank Access or Plus a/c? which one is Basic? I only need a account with a debit card. I am with Lloyds at the moment and I am reclaiming bank charges and I am scar to bits they going to close my account! I also have a savings a/c with them. I am a pensioner and get my pension credit paid in my current a/c and my South African Air Force pention into my savings a/c, so you can see I am going to pickup mega gib if they close my accounts! Perhaps I should stop my claim(£1005) what do you think?
Thank you Hantie:confused0
