Basic Bank Account Thread

  • They probably would but Natwest offer a Solo card on their basic account, Yorshire bank offer a Maestro card and Co-Operative & Halifax offer Electron on their basic accounts, you could try them too if you get declined from RBS, if you have been a good customer they may well give you one to keep your customer, especially if you say you'll walk away otherwise....

The Halifax opened a basic account for me about 5 years ago when no other bank would (with a Solo debit to start with which changed to Electron later) Now that I am claiming back the charges from Halifax, I have successfully opened another basic account with NatWest (Step account with Solo debit card)

I had no trouble at all opening an account with NatWest, I did it online and only took a few minutes.

Maybe worth a go... Good luck

I've decided to go with the Yorkshire Bank for their basic readycash account. I rang the Co-Op Bank and quizzed them - seems they do a credit search even for a basic Cashminder account where there's no overdraft or cheque book. Although things are now more stable for me, I don't want any credit searches done because it can affect your credit score - and I'm working hard to repair mine at the moment.

thanks to all for all the really helpful info in this thread,

    Pam

good move pam, you get a maestro with yorkshire as well not an electron like you do with the coop.
  • I got my yorkshire bank maestro card yesterday! woo woo lol :T
  • Thanks.

I do have a Citibank account but I'm not sure if they report good conduct so have applied for a Nationwide Flex account as well ... hopefully, I'll be accepted as I want to build my credit history and it seems a bank account that reports to the CRA's is a good place to start ... :D

Just wanted to let you know, I've had a Nationwide Flex Account for nearly 3 years, all run very smoothly. About a month ago I got my credit report from Experian and there was no sign of my account on there. I was hoping it would be as it's the only good thing I have (previously bankrupt)

  • Hi I'm new here and have just spent nearly a whole afternoon just reading this thread, which has been great by the way.
I presently have rbs key account, which they have refused to upgrade, due to a satisfied ccj on my file.
From what everyone has said about citibank i'm gonna give them a try and let you know how I get on.:D
