If you see my post above. I made appointment on Monday at Barclays, went in today, came back home with sort code and account number and this afternoon set up direct debits and arranged for all payments to be paid into new account. So three days in total. I should definitely try them first.0

I am retired through injury and receive benefits. I cannot work for medical reasons. My Wife works two part time jobs and she cannot get a Bank Account anywhere. Wherever she goes (Barclays & Santander)it's the same...they want ID in the form of a passport/ Driving Licence. The problem is that she doesn't have either of these? She can't drive and has never been abroad? She was asked for a FULL Birth Certificate, too. But that only proves Birth details? Anyone can get a Birth Certificate! Can't they? She has taken Wage Slips/Utility Bills/Rent Books et al...all to no avail. I can't understand why someone who has lived and worked all her life in the UK is being turned down all the time? We are in debt - like many others - to two banks (LloydsTSB & Halifax) and have come to an agreement with them over the payments. She was with one of them but they froze her account. She seems quite happy having her wages sent to my Bank, but I just think she should have her own independence? Why is it not possible for her to get a basic account just to put her wages in? I know so many people on the dole - relatives included - who have Bank Accounts. Yet, at 55, nobody wants to know? Any advice?0

Hi,
I made my online application for a basic account with Lloyds TSB several days back but have heard no word from them. I only gave a phone number and realised that I didn't fill in the email section.
As a result, I am concerned that I may not have received a reference code of some sort (?) perhaps, or at least confirmation that the application was going ahead. Wen I finished the application, I printed a copy but it is a standard for with no identifiable reference codes etc.
Does anyone know how long these things take to process and if it's worth trying to contact them somehow? I assume my local branch wouldn't be able to check...
(Has anyone else had similar experiences?)0 -
Following previous comments about Lloyds bank credit scoring be very careful with Lloyds - we moved our basic bank account to lloyds because they offered really good online banking facilities and a visa debit card, also when we spoke to them they told us their accounts were monitored and future account upgrades etc would depend on the usage of the account. 2 years down the line I have yet again been to the bank today to try and get the account upgraded only to finally be told that they do not monitor this type of account and upgrade will be dependent on our credit rating and where they perceive money within the account to be going to - 10% of our monthly income is used to pay of debts in managed payment plans many to debt collection companies and they felt this was not acceptable!0

I'd have asked them how much of the bank's income is going to pay off their debt to the British tax-payer. It wouldn't have got me anywhere, but I'd have felt better! Just find a better bank.0

Hi,
I have got terrible credit, CCj's and defaults. I tried to open a basic bank account with Yorkshire bank yesterday and got rejected. Can anybody recommend a bank that i wont get rejected from? I just want the most basic bank account. I was completly honest with Yorkshire bank and explained my circumstances fully. The application got reffered to head office so the guy i was speaking to went out of the office to call them, he then came back and said it had been rejected because of something on my credit report. I know my credit is really bad, but i literally just want the most basic account you can get.
I am now having to get my wages paid in to my boyfriends account until i can get this sorted.
Any help would be much appreciated!0 -

I don't understand why they didn't open you an Easy Saver account at the same time, it's only a few clicks and would have been set-up in a few moments.
Call Phone Bank on 0845 3 000 000 or 01733 347007 and Register. Once you have done this, simply tell them you wan't to Open an Easy Saver Account with a Cashpoint Card and they can do it all over the phone for you.
We saw the bank manager again today, (it's a small branch and only he is trained to open accounts, which can't be bad in getting to known the manager), and he opened the joint easy saver account for us - verifying that the both link cards have been ordered.
So that's us sorted, and thanks for all your info.
When we got home i checked the internet banking and the saver account was already there showing, thus so far so good.
In 6 months time we shall go back and enquire about an upgrade to a current account, upon the managers recommendation, though he did say that he would normally recieve an alert on the system when an upgrade is possiable.0 -
