  • Many thanks, we have an appointment to see the branch manager on Monday to make our application.

I do have one further question if you know the answer -

We had our Natwest Step account for over 5 years, and never once went overdrawn or had any charges - yet because they use credit scoring for upgrade application we have always been declined.

Do you know if it's the same criteria for Lloyds TSB, or do they take behavioural issues in to account?

    Thanks again.

Lloyds like most banks have two systems it's own internal scoring and it receives information from Experian etc. once a month on your conduct elsewhere.

Lloyds internal scores goes from 1 to 9 with 1 being the best and this is made up on how well you run the accounts and of course elsewhere.

A big problem is something called CPD "Credit Policy Decline" marker which can be placed on accounts - means if you have this on your account even if you had an internal score of 1 meaning the best of the best type of customer, you would be declined for any type of credit until this marker is removed.

Once you open the account ask them what your internal score is and see what they say.

If you run a Cash Card Account well, they will look into upgrading this after 6 months although it's not set in stone after 6 months plus.

  • Well after two infuriating interviews with Santander & Barclays - The first were just inept and the latter were rude and wouldn't accept my passport as ID due it being out of date (even though I had additional driving licence as a valid photo ID and a tax letter as the valid proof of address...) - I have just submitted an online application to Lloyds TSB for their Cash Account. It runs a credit check which I'm nervous about but finger's crossed it should be ok.

I'm more nervous about an old creditor tracking me down which is why I've never run my own credit check but I suppose now that a bank is running it I may as well do one myself! (Erk!) I really hope it goes through ok as I need to set up the standing orders for my token payments for the credit card payments. I don't legally owe the creditor money but it's not the way they see it and I've lost the contract and can't afford to contest it if they find me.

Money, route of all evil! (Unless you have plenty, and then it's awesome!) ;-D G'uh.

Our appointment with the local bank manager to open an account was this afternoon, and it went...well....rather quickly.
The manager seemed to be in rush, and didn't seem happy our application was reffered - they couldn't identiy my wife until they searched under her maiden name.
Anyhows application went through ok and was given account number and sort code.
However when i asked about opening an easy saver account, seems it's not so easy....we were told to come back in a couple of weeks time when the account has been up and running.
We were in and out in less than 10 minutes, so was quick and easy.

We will get our debit cards by the end of the week, when we can then say goodbye to Natwest after 9 years.

The manager did say that you can use the card in their atms, and other atms may incur a charge.
Is this correct, as i thought you couldn't use other atms at all?

You should have shown your driving licence and tax letter, instead of your passport. I think your situation will go better.

Actually, since you have a current UK passport or driving licence, no seperate proof of address is necessary according to their brochure.

LTSB's basic account won't allow cash withdrawals from othr ATMs.

According to their website (http://www.lloydstsb.com/current_accounts/cash_account.asp), it's only LTSB cash machines only. I think the manager is wrong.

You could have went to other banks for basic bank accounts. They will allow you to use their cards at any ATM.

Hi everyone i want too open a basic account at a bank because since i moved in with my partner i have only had a post office account.
Im registered as my partners carer so i have my carers allowance paid into this account.

The problem i have is that i dont have a passport or a driving licence for id and also all the utility bills are in my partners name.

Can anyone give me any advice on what id i could use?

You could use your letter from DWP confirming your carers allowance as proof of address.
Not sure about the photo id though.

    Thanks,

We live on an island and the only bank is Lloyds TSB. We have got a Natwest Step account, and have done so for many years, but they've been messing us around with a change of address so decided it was time to leave. Plus the fact we have always kept the account in good order, but always been refused an upgrade, think it's time to move on.
The advantage with Lloyds TSB, apart from having a branch on the island is that we can deposit cash over the counter quickly if needs be for a direct debit.

We will open an Easy Saver account which gives you a Link card to use at any ATM. That way i can transfer money by internet banking and draw cash from any ATM.

    EDIT
Scrap the bit about opening an Easy Saver account, as i think we'll keep the Natwest Step account open and transfer money to that. Doing it this way will help with credit scoring as we've been been with them a long time, so any credit applications will be done with that account until we've been with Lloyds TSB a while and hopefully been upgraded to a full current account.

I'm afraid the Manager was wrong - You can only use the Visa Debit card to withdraw cash from Lloyds TSB Cashpoints. You can use the card though at any shops that accepts Visa Debit in the UK or Abroad and get Cashback also via this method.

I don't understand why they didn't open you an Easy Saver account at the same time, it's only a few clicks and would have been set-up in a few moments.

Call Phone Bank on 0845 3 000 000 or 01733 347007 and Register. Once you have done this, simply tell them you wan't to Open an Easy Saver Account with a Cashpoint Card and they can do it all over the phone for you.

  • Went to open barclays cash card account today as I am going to file for bankruptcy and most of my debts are with Lloyds who I currently bank with. I was upfront and told the lady at Barclays I had debt issues with Lloyds and had been advised by National debt line to open an account with them. She couldn't have been nicer and didn't ask any further questions. The only problem was with id as I dont drive and have no passport. Eventually she took a letter from DWP and an interest statement from Lloyds account, then came the hunt for something with my 'full' name on. Most documents just use the initial for the middle name. Eventually she told me she would check on the electoral role and came back in about five minutes and printed off my new account number and sort code saying that my debit card would follow in a few days but that I could set up any direct debits, incoming payments immediately. I was amazed. I had read good and bad about Barclays but can't praise them highly enough. The woman who set up the account for me was actually 'human' and very accommodating, going out of her way to sort out the id. Giving me her card so I could phone if I had any problems or questions. Convinced she knew that I would be filing for bankruptcy but she never asked any questions, just gave me this knowing sort of smile. So huge recommendation to Barclays.
