Yes I have one of these accounts, I personally think it is an excellent account.

    Thanks sgx.saint
Been to the branch today and made an appontiment for Friday. told to bring id e.g driving licence and then they will open an account on the spot and I should have a new account number to inform my employers when I walk out of the door. Hopefully the Maestro card will follow in the post which will do exactly what I want.

Yep, I don't foresee you having any issues and the account will be opened there and then, with your Maestro to follow.

At the same time as applying for the Citibank a/c I applied for a Halifax Easycash, phoned them today and they confirmed that they had opened the account yesterday for me.
Still going to open a Yorkshire bank Readycash as it has a full Maestro card.
Any experience with Yorkshire Bank online sgx.saint?
    Thanks
  • In reply to the basic account thread.

I opened a basic account with Abbey as I bank with a sister bank of theirs Abbey International. I learned afterwards that they are two separate entities and no synergies can be achieved by having both. Oh well, I thought, I have opened the account now, may as well proceed.

Have to say. WORST, WORST, WORST experience of dealing with a bank ever!

Firstly they pull me into a room every time I want to pay in money and refuse to let me transfer sums over the phone. Every time I call up I have to answer so many security questions I am made to feel like a criminal trying to get at my money.

As well as this I have to wait five working days for cheques to clear. As I cannot pay money or cheques over the counter in the UK for my Abbey international account (Who by the way are the best bank I have ever dealt with, HIGHLY recommended!) I need a UK presence.

Speaking to other people about this they have had similar problems with Abbey, my mother and her current account for instance.

Just trying to say. I am sure there is a good Basic a/c on this thread. Go with it and avoid Abbey like the plague.

    Hi Electriclady,
Just opened a Yorkshire readycash account today-no problem and nice friendly branch staff who did not look down their noses because it was a basic account. I took in my driving licence and walked out with my account number. The great thing is that there is a Maetsro card the same as my First Direct card which I am going to claim charges from.
I have three CCJ's, one settled and the other two being paid off and numerous defaults.
They did not make any fuss or do a credit search just an address confirm and the advisor said that they would look at the account in 8-12 months to see if there was a posibility of upgrading, i'm not bothered at the moment.
    Good luck.
