About Citibank ie what they say:
New Citibank Plus/Access Current Account:
"Simple isn’t a word you’d usually associate with a bank account. But that’s exactly what makes the Citibank Plus/Access Current Account different.
It’s easy to manage and offers a competitive interest rate, with no catches and no strings attached. All of which makes it easy to earn money too. Simple.
Easy to manage:
Dealing with your bank shouldn’t be difficult, but it often is. Whenever possible, we’ll take the hassle out of managing your money, whether that’s by transferring your standing orders for you or just by offering an efficient, personal service.
Simply the best:
Not only do we offer one of the best current account interest rates in the market, but our rate is better than many savings accounts too.
Just an everyday thing:
You earn the same great rate on any balance you have in your account, whether it’s £1 or £100,000. As interest is calculated daily, you can be sure that you’re earning something every day.
Your terms and conditions, not ours:
You manage the account on your terms, not ours. We’re not looking for any commitment from you upfront - there’s no minimum deposit required and you don’t need to give us your salary every month.
Your choice:
You can use our Citibank Online service to access your account. Or, if you’d prefer, you can speak to one of our personal bankers, who are available 24 hours a day and have got the authority to get things done for you.
You’ll also receive a VISA debit card, enabling you to make purchases and to withdraw money from over 44,000 LINK cash machines in the UK and over 840,000 VISA and LINK ATMs worldwide".<<If you liked what I said then feel free to click on the thanks button>>0 -
Both the citi plus and access accounts are current accounts the difference is that the plus account give some more benefits but charge a fee of £10/month and the access account dont give those extra benefits but dont charge a fee either.
So its upto each individual, i.e. if you want those extra benefits then keep the plus account (sterling current account at the moment but will be changed to the plus account on 1st April) and if you dont want those extra benefits its best to shift to the access account so that you dont have to pay the monthly fee of £10.<<If you liked what I said then feel free to click on the thanks button>>0 -
hi new member here and have so far found this website to be very very useful.
I am with LLoyds TSB at the moment and going to switch v soon (due to start a dmp soon). I had an account with the halifax a few years ago (easycash i think) which I phoned up just to check the account was still live, which it is I asked on the phone if I could change it to a basic account and then to make it a joint account. I told to come into the branch on Sat with 2 forms of ID. when I did this today I was told that they would send the forms out in the post, as they don't open basic bank accounts in the branch. they did get me to speak to someone on the phone who wanted me to have one of their super duper accounts but I said all I wanted was a basic. is this right about starting a basic account via post or were they fobbing me off??
sorry this is so long but I wasn't happy when I left and told them they had wasted my Sat morning and they should have told me this when I phoned.Official DFW NERD Club Member 330

The best way to get a basic account is to apply online. After that they will send you some forms to sign and will ask you to send some id with it. The basic account will be opened with in 2 weeks.<<If you liked what I said then feel free to click on the thanks button>>0 -
thanks
was so annoyed though with halifax have gone to citibank and applied with one with them online.
I just felt that they were giving me an excuse because I didn't want their new super account which needed credit search done on me. I wouldn't agree to it because I had asked for a basic account only.
just have to wait for the pack to come through now.Official DFW NERD Club Member 330

I would have to disagree with this statement as a large percentage of basic bank accounts can only be applied for by visiting the bank in person.can you open a bank acoount quickly on line. i need to open one fast.
See my above comments if you are refering to a basic account.s this right about starting a basic account via post or were they fobbing me off??
Yes some banks will only open basic accounts via postal processing. I know A&L used to operate this policy.0 -
