I think I have finished all the flower transplanting. Phew it has taken ages because I grew too much, I got a couple of free packets of seeds above what I had already bought so thought I would sow them. I mean it is just so easy when it all goes into a couple of very large trays to start with. I find it very hard to get rid of baby plants so have ended up wth hundreds. Anyway I won`t be doing that next year.
I am straight now and am concentrating on the winter produce this week. I still have two 8 x 4 brassica beds to fill plus a bit of another one. I am trying to divide brassicas into short, medium and long term as I don`t want to tie up more than one bed after march next year. My short term bed is quick cabbages, caulies, red cabbage and sorbidor kale and all will be out by sept. Medium bed is broccoli, tundra cabbage, swede, autumn cabbage and all will be out by november. Long term will be kales, tundra and swede and maybe some broccoli. I have quite a few quick cabbages growing in raised beds in my garden. I got 9 into 6 sq feet and they are superb so I am not being too fussy re the allotment brassicas except for winter ones
I`ll be looking to only plant autumn onions, garlic and shallots next time around as they are performing brilliantly this year. I have only had the allotment for 9 months and need to get into a rotation after haphazard planting last autumn.
I need to be so strict with myself next year re plant numbers and what I plant, I mean I don`t like spring onions much and yet I planted quite a few of them and far too many radishes even though the timing was staggered0 -
Hi all, I have decided after the success of my strawberry plants this year to try and grow some more veg in order to save some more pennies, I am trying to live my life like my grandparents and go down the make do and mend route. I am planting some lettuce I got in a little kit tonight, but was wondering what else would be good for me to grow that is easy and can be grown in plant pots till my raised bed are built when the OH does the garden.MAY NSD's

Quite pleased with how everything is going this year so far, only disaster has been Sweetcorn which I've mentioned before, just waiting to see if this year's 3rd sowing amounts to anything.:o I've had an offer of some spares up the Allotment so all will not be lost.
Sowed some Borlotti beans last week and half are poking through already, my tray of French beans are so tall now that I think I may plant those out, earthed up my Garden spuds at the weekend and I'm off to the Allotment today to say what needs doing up there - we don't have rain Forecast here so will need to get some watering done.
PS. almost forgot, sowed some Pumpkin seeds last week and no sign of life yet. Hope I'm not too late.:o"WASTE NOT, WANT NOT!"GC for OH, myself, DD18 & DD16 includes Toiletries, cleaning stuff & Food.

You could plant a courgette in a pot (although it would need quite a large pot to move into as they grow quickly).
I have also planted some beetroot in a pot ready to transplant once they are small seedlings. Runner & French Beans can be started in pots or modules.0 -
My climbing courgettes are looking nice - I think I will be planting them in the big pots to give them more of a head start before they go in they final positions.
I have also sown some 'normal' not climbing courgettes over the weekend - maybe a bit late, but we will see.
I have brought my aubergines and chillies inside this morning, as they are still tiny and I want them to grow a bit more. They are tiny, although both have been sown months ago, firts chillies where sown in January and they are only 2" high or so! So, back inside, in front of patio window, will see what happens.
I have also sown some more coriander and Thai basil - to please OH, s he loves cooking Thai food.
Other than that, I need to sort out the front flower bed - can I cut down the daffodil leaves yet or do I need to let them die off naturally? I have put a few fresias in between and the first one of them is just about to start flowering! Oh, and the peony looks like it is getting ready to open up soon too. Can't wait for that!Spring into Spring 2015 - 0.7/12lb0 -
I've never grown Thai basil before, is it grown the same as the ordinary stuff? we too love Thai cooking.
I've got my own lemon grass growing but had never thought of growing Thai basil.0
