Veg to plant in May and things to do.

Thanks - I haven't thought about cucumbers and tomatoes together. Probably because my grandpa always grew them in the same greenhouse (I am talking about some 8 metre long and 3m wide greenhouse...)
I will definitely discard the idea of planting cucumbers in between the tomatoes!!!!
I am having my climbing courgettes in another bed with peas and beans, might see if I can squeeze in some cucumbers there, or wait until I lift a few heads of garlic/onions/shallots and plant cucumbers there. They are still only on the second leaves (have been in the blowaway as soon as germinated - due to house works and space limits!)Spring into Spring 2015 - 0.7/12lb0 -
So, here is my bed marked up for the square foot gardening. The narrow row is about 5-6 inches width and I will be putting radishes there. The short side rows are slightly less than foot (10 inches), s I left them for the marigolds.
Empty bed:
Tomatoes (and marigolds) in (San Marzano, Ciliegia, Gardener's Delight, Red cherry - which is the same as Ciliegia probably):Spring into Spring 2015 - 0.7/12lb0 -
I am after a few pointers please?? I have a lovely allotment that I am enjoying spending every spare second at. Usually my partner in crime is my Dad as he has all the knowledge but he has deserted me for a month long holiday and I would love to get loads of stuff done while he is away and impress him by doing it right!!
Yesterday I built a support for a cucumber plant which is at the end of our polytunnel. I also have a couple of courgette plants, all green bush and jemmer(I think, its a yellow one?) Can I train them up the support as well or would I be best putting them in a raised bed? I also have 3 pumpkin plants (hundred weight) and 1 winter squash with a long Italian name I can't remember. How am I best planting these out? I have OH on stand by to make more raised beds but how much space am I likely to need? I would also like to say thanks to everyone already as I have found out sooo much from this forum already0 -
Courgettes want going in raised bed. You can get trailing courgettes that you can apparently train up something, but I don't like them and I don't thing they work very well.
The courgettes need a meter sq space around each one to get the best growing conditions. The squash will get huge, but again need about a meter sq basic space, you can train them where you want.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -
Brill, I will have to get OH on raised bed duties again then. Would I be best to have individual raised beds for each squash/pumpkin plant or would they do just as well in a slightly mounded up place in one of our large plots. Luckily space isn't a problem it's just knowing how to prepare the ground in the right way. Thanks0

Well no they don't need an individual raised bed, just the right space.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0

My Spacemaster cucumber seeds have come through last night!! I only planted then on Wednesday.
Anyone has any idea why my rocket turned purple in one pot? Another pot from the same packet is green..
They are only about inch or two tall at the moment..
First time rocket growing for me..is this normal?0 -
