Some, not all LA's use a company called Mouchel Business Services, that includes my area, they do all sorts of things for the local authority. One thing they do - do is have an enforcement policy.
Here is a bit of C&P from last years stats in Birmingham :
Birmingham issued over 50,000 Blue Badges
• 15,000 Stolen and lost Blue Badges Replaced.
• 1 in 20 people have blue badge. (50 per 1,000)
• National average 46 per 1,000
• 15 Misuse cases from one office block in 2 days.
• 75% vehicles in one street displaying blue badges – Following enforcement only 20% vehicles displaying blue badge
It would be nice if this was rolled out nationwide, and enforced, and publicised, and used frequently. The new national rather than the current local area only dBase rolls out later this year - its a gift - I hope LA's take that gift with both hands and use it to the full. Similarly I hope all genuine blue Badge holders support the scheme by becoming the eyes of the scheme and reporting every chava in ASDA or anywhere else car park.Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. I try to be an even-handed poster and accept that you at times may not agree with these opinions or how I choose to express them, this is not my problem. HRM needs tightening in cases such as obesity etc sure but how somebody uses their notability vehicle has no effect on any other disabled person what so ever, unlike blue badges which very much do.
If they were to have the same rules then for carers who are a parent or spouse then it would be more hasstle than it's worth and they would effectively be prevented from using the scheme because they would likely always need to have a second car as well anyway.
But their use does affect other disabled people, the familes who use their mobility car to get dad to work while claiming help transporting disabled kid to school (read the forum this has happened) are taking away resources from an already stretched funding source.
Having a mobility car should remove all entitlement to any other mobility scheme, kids should be taken to school in their mobility car, disabled people should travel to hospital in their car etc.
There are too many people IRL and on these boards who use the mobility car for various non disabled related things and expect grants and all sorts for transporting a disabled person on top of this, it has to stop.0 -

Thanks for summarising my posts for me! I'm glad you're around to help people like that! People like you really make this board the great place it is.0
