I have always paid my supermarket bills on Tes cc so I get the points that I put towards deals. I have been toying with the idea of withdrawing cash for the month and paying the bills with that - on the grounds that 'when it's gone it's gone'

Has anyone found this a better way of working or should I stick with the cc? My month starts 1st of the month so I would need to get the cash before my next shop. Any thoughts would be welcome.

Susan I am debating doing this too - leaving maybe £20 on the Egg money card for when OH gets bread and bits on the way home, then taking out £140 in cash... our first main shop will be tomorrow so will have to decide before then I guess and maybe take out the cash at their ATM first.

Hi, please put me down for £440 for May. Thanks.

I nearly stuck to the grocery budget for April, but went a tiny bit over, but other areas in April I have spent under budget so am pleased with how my overall April spend went.:j

I had a 'chat' with a guy at the bank a couple of weeks ago, wanting to help me with my money, as they so kindly do (!!!). I wanted to change my overdraft - I have a £500 limit on one account, and nothing on the other. I simply wanted to spread that out, so £250 on each. I wasn't asking for any more money, and I can't even remember the last time I went into the od, but I like to have it there in case tax credits or child benefit is paid at the wrong time of the month (it's done 4-weekly). However, he made me go through my whole budget, asking me what I spend on this, that and the other, and then the subject of food came up. He asked me my spends, and I said £150. He said that was very low, and I quoted that I had spent £147.42 the previous month (didn't tell him about my MAJOR muckup this month!). He was really quite surprised that a) I had such a low budget, and b) that I knew exactly how much I had spent! Found out later, he lives with his mum and dad!! I had to explain to him, that because I didn't have more than that to allocate to it, I couldn't spend more than that!

I was quite cross with him really, as I felt he was judging me or accusing me of lying. And he doesn't even have to worry about that because bank of mummy and daddy sort it out! GRRRR!!!! And it still took over an hour to sort out the bl@@dy overdrafts!!

Anyhoo, thought I'd share that - thanks for 'listening'.

  • Hi All, hope your all having a good weekend,
Even though I wanted to reign in my spending this month, to bring the annual budget back in line, I haven't really managed it. I've stuck to the meal plan, but I think with the nice weather, ice-creams are too appealing, also OH keeps asking for nes*afe cappacino's at £2 abox and he has a couple a day its an expense we could do without really. Never mind could be worse.
Tomorrow I am going to sit down and do a meal plan for the month, and try to use up what we have in and spend as little as I can on groceries. I do want to have a good spend at the farm shop later in the month, as I have a 10% off voucher, and I want to get bits for some bbq's. We have family coming over from New Zealand in June, so it would be nice to have some nice bbq's. I would like to try not to spend any more than £140 this month. We shal see...l

Very empty cupboards here, no margarine or eggs for baking....yes I know that butter is better but at €1.95 a pound its more than I can manage. We have been having salad with every meal as its in the garden but reckon that carrots etc would be handy to vary things a bit!

Thanks Pink, MrsMC and rosieben for all your hard work....I don't thank you often enough.

    Sorry £80 this month.
