I would have thought it was logical. If your car has been declared as unroadworthy, it would be illegal to drive it on the highway.

yep, and driving an un-roadworthy car is illegal but they would still be covered by the old MOT.

    No it wouldn't.
The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark

    Evidence for that?

I didn’t think there was any way of cancelling an MOT, once issued it remains valid until its expiry date

starting to get circular, although fulsome apologies will be coming your way if you can link to any law that gives anyone the power to cancel a legally issued MOT certificate before the expiry date printed on it when it was issued

    car passed MOT
now has road tax, and is parked outside my house

    who hoo

    thanks for all the input.
You will all be glad to know that the car was off the road until the day of the test, and only on the road to the test centre and home again.
Following that we ordered the road tax online which only took 48hrs to arrive.
We called the road tax hotline and we were told that we were ok until the 10th may with an april tax disc, so bingo.
Tax arrived today car on the road and legal

thanks everybody for some interesting contributions
