  • Yes my wife has had the tax reminder for a while, however i only found out about this, this evening.
We have 1 car, its in her name as are all documents.
But i do occasionaly use it.

Not be funny but even without a tax reminder, surely just by looking at the car tax on car you would have known it was due..if your gonna take the risk driving without MOT remember your not insured.

with relatives there I'm surprised they can't squeeze you in earlier, the other option, if you really need the car, is to take a chance and use it.

In the unlikely event of getting caught you are only looking at a £60 fine and no points

This may be factually correct, but not good advice IMO as no MOT = no insurance. You wouldn't be happy if they hit you/your car and you found that out?

I think you've given the OP the answer they wanted to hear though ;)

This tells it like it is,

    http://www.ukpoliceonline.co.uk/index.php?/topic/20759-getting-caught-with-no-mot-fine/

as we have said, £60 non-endorsable fine, but garages that are 'cheap' for MOT are cheap for a reason, they "find more faults" to get the repair work.

You could have booked the MOT last month as molerat said, then you're MOT runs for 13 months or you've a month to sort any probs.

Not many are aware of recent changes
If your tax is due to run out at the end of the month, you can renew it from the fifth day of the previous month.

sorry this is incorrect, the lack of an mot cert does not mean the car is uninsured.
    Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.
  • Puzzles me why anyone these days leaves it so late to book in for MOT, surely everyone knows that you can get it tested 28 days before MOT runs out ?

You can get it tested whenever you like. 29 days before, 129 days before, whenever the fancy takes you.
  • Thanks to all the contributions.
the car is parked in the back yard.
it can stay there till MOT day.

Safety first, so not gonna drive it anywhere.
We will look into car rental for the weekend, or is that another can of worms...
