Help no mot, tax out in 4 days.

Looking for advice.
The MOT ran out today, its booked in for its test next week.
No problems so far.

However, i need the car for saturday.

Can i drive it as the road tax is still valid until end of April ? and I have a scheduled appointment for the MOT test.

Then on the 30 th April go for SORN, take the car off road until the MOT, then take it to garage, and all being well it passes, then buy road tax ?

OR

do I have to take the car off the road NOW, and not use it until it gets an MOT cert ?

any advice would be helpfull
regards
jim

The simple answer is no - you cannot drive without a valid MOT. Don't understand why you are SORN tho if it is going to get an MOT next week.
Can't you get an MOT done tomorrow?

You can legally use it to attend a pre-booked MoT appointment, nothing else.
  • It happens that the garage we are using can do the Mot much cheaper than any where else.
Also they are more trustworthy (relatives work there).

'Phone around get it in for an MOT tomorrow, if you think it won't pass, book it in for a pre-test inspection.

If it passes, you can get it taxed up to 14 days BEFORE the old tax runs out.

Don't drive it with no MOT un less you are going to a pre-booked appointment at a test centre.

You should be able to get it sorted by Saturday, I mean you've had the tax reminder for a while haven't you. ;)

Use local authority test centres, they don't do the repair work, so don't have anything to prove as far as 'trustworthy' goes.

Won't be cheaper if you get 'tugged' for no MOT

  • Puzzles me why anyone these days leaves it so late to book in for MOT, surely everyone knows that you can get it tested 28 days before MOT runs out ?

with relatives there I'm surprised they can't squeeze you in earlier, the other option, if you really need the car, is to take a chance and use it.

In the unlikely event of getting caught you are only looking at a £60 fine and no points
