, but not good advice IMO as no MOT = no insurance.
Incorrect, no MOT does not invalidate insurance.

OP - How important is Saturday? If it's life important and worth a £60 fine then go for it. You won't get points, the insurance isn't invalid. As long as the car is legal then you'll get a £60 fine at most.
If it's a trip down the road or your tyres are bald then leave the car home.
Yes, it's illegal. But when there is people out there with no insurance, tax or MOT without the car being registered to them. Someone running over by a week or so isn't the end of the worl.0 -
This may be factually correct, but not good advice IMO as no MOT = no insurance. You wouldn't be happy if they hit you/your car and you found that out?
I think you've given the OP the answer they wanted to hear though
NOPE.. it doesnt.. just look at the miriad of posts regarding this on MSE..Sealed pot challenger # 10

I agree with every word of that. Also ur car wont be put on the database that the anpr uses after just expiring by 1 day, who knows how long it takes to get added ?, 4 weeks or more would be my guess as they will realise repairs and re-tests will be happening for most cars that expire or fail.0 -

the car is parked in the back yard.
it can stay there till MOT day.
Safety first, so not gonna drive it anywhere.
We will look into car rental for the weekend, or is that another can of worms...
Interesting...
You go to that garage because it is 'cheap' however you are prepared to spend additional money on hiring a car without even calling your relatives to see if they can fit it in early....If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0 -

That depends
If the insurance policy documents specifically state that a valid current MOT is needed for the vehicle, then if the MOT has expired that particular policy would be invalid, so you would need to check the actual policy wording.
I'm glad to read that the OP has ignored the poor advice given by those that said to ignore the MOT laws. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Your wrong
Theres umpteen threads on here proving that no mot DOES NOT invalidate an insurance policy no matter what an insurer tells you or has in their T&C's.
This one follows from the start to a successful payout, no MOT, T&C's stated it invalidated policy.

My insurance states that the car must have a valid MOT.
My nephew was stopped by the police last week and he did not have a valid MOT (the van is owned my his father's business) and he did not know the MOT had ran out.
Anyway he got a fine and they said he may have to appear in court!0 -

Lost the will to live reading that really long thread thanks:rotfl:
And I would comment that threads on the MSE forum prove nothing - sorrycase law examples would if any have been provided ?
But, the only link I could find to the ombudsman information was with respect to the "roadworthiness clauses" in the insurance policy. Which I would agree could not enforce an MOT.
But, where the policy has a specific clause that states a valid MOT certificate must be in force, then I would expect the law of contract to apply and hence the insurer could say the insured had not upheld their part of the contract so the insurance was not valid, there is a subtle difference in my opinion.
I would be very interested to read case law examples or an ombudsman ruling that negates the specific MOT requirement clause of an insurance policy, can anyone point me to a direct link ?This is a system account and does not represent a real person.
