WARNING SOLAR PANELS & some Siemens S2AS-100/ Siemens S1AS-100 Meters

At last someone else with the same problem. YOU ARE NOT GOING CRAZY. I am been charged by the supply company for all my exported energy and imported. I have no issue with charges for imported but not when they add on my exported energy as well!
Solar panels are working well and after some deliberation I finally proved that the incoming meter was in fact advancing when I was NOT consuming but was GENERATING. I proved this to my self by switching off every household piece of electrical equipment whilst I was away on holiday, guess what? yes you have it, the meter advanced (because I was generating from the solar panels all week).
I have now had a check meter installed and this has proved conclusively that the Siemens meter is indeed at fault.
I have contacted EON and EDF the two suppliers to the property during the last two years to make a claim for the overcharges (both are surprised that a digital meter can do this, but the facts now speak for themselves). The total overcharge is some 36% during the test period. This will represent about £350 per year, not insignificant
Who is at fault well Siemens;- maybe. installers;- likely. suppliers;- definitely. Me;- yes for not checking closely enough and trusting people who are so called experts.
I guess that they are many people in the same place and dont know it, so the issue could be pretty big and affecting a lot of consumers. This issue needs to be aired and followed through. The check meter is still installed and would make a really interesting TV program.0 -
This German technology was ahead of its time.
Inside the meter it almost certainly knows the figures giving the imported and exported units, where the current owner of the meter to mug up on the instruction booklet.
In the UK they were set up to trap the fraudsters who tried switching the meter tails.
A handy trick if you are a busy cannabis farmer.0 -
we have had several bulletins over the past few months issued by our tech dept that there are 'several' makes of electronic meter that its come to light are doing this and they are not to be installed at a property with solar pv....0

Would you care to share that list with the rest of us;):D0

I seem to be getting further with my issue at home, but now wonder whether we have the same problem at work!
Does anyone know whether this other meter could have the same issue of adding exported units to imported ones?
Landis & Gyr
Polyphase
Type 5219A
Will update the home situation when I get chance.
Thanks,
P
I've had a problem with this meter (5219) but not with export being added to import. The problem is that export is always treated as zero when it comes to incrementing the meter. So if your exporting say 10kW in total on two of the phases but importing 3kW on the other it is increasing the meter by 3kw when it shouldn't be increasing at all. Another example, export of 2kW in total on 2 phases and 3kW import on the other should see the meter increasing by 1kW (3-2) not the 3kW that it was. I've also got it on an Itron ACE3000-520
These meters are configurable but they aren't being configured correctly for PV. I believe many, probably 1000's of people are affected by the same problem but aren't aware. Yes their bills will have come down when PV was installed but probably not by as much as they should have. My two suppliers both said they had never heard of this before and it was only because I was absolutely insistent with them and told them they were wrong about my meter calculating my usage correctly that something has and is being done about it.0 -

Hiya tinbum1. If you'd like to write a short info paragraph (similar to the above), and post it on the PV FAQ thread,
https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/3872445
then I'll 'pinch it' and insert it in section 4.
Cheers.
Mart.Mart. Cardiff. 8.72 kWp PV systems (2.12 SSW 4.6 ESE & 2.0 WNW). 20kWh battery storage. Two A2A units for cleaner heating. Two BEV's for cleaner driving.
