I knew you would.

May I suggest (as I may have suggested before) that if the banks can be "forced" to lend to FTBs, then they should be forced to lend to builders also ?
Sure. Sounds reasonable to me.
Increasing credit availability to FTB-s is the first step though. And I think builders would manage to raise the funds if they could demonstrate an improved order book from FTB-s.PS. Regarding the post above, I'd rather think that Hamish and I are not "at war", but having a reasonably decent debate on this Sunday afternoon. We don't have to agree, but that doesn't mean we are "at war".
Agreed.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.

Steady now !
You might say that is enough, but I think you have to be careful that you don't just stoke the fire with a few (or a lot) of FTBs, and allow the builders to warm their hands on it.
If you are going to "control" the market by leaning on the banks, then you might as well try to copntrol the market for the maximum benefit to the most people. And sorry, Hamish, that doesn't mean for the benefit of those of us who already own property(s). I am all in favour of market control, as long as it doesn't take the "easy option".30 Year Challenge : To be 30 years older. Equity : Don't know, don't care much. Immigrants are a net economic benefit the the nation and we need plenty more of them.
We have too many immigrants here already in my opinion, i work in the construction industry so i am basing what i have said on that fact. we are now at the stage were immigrants are now doing the jobs that i or my friends do. so now we have british workers out of work and replaced by foreign workers. No real benefit to the economy in that situation is there.0 -

Well i worked in the hotel and supermarket industry at a high level and immigrants were doing 1000's of jobs british people wouldnt and to add, to a very high standard i.e. not taking days off sick or extended breaks etc.
There are some groups who come and dont work and cant even claim benefits but overall they contribute more than they take out, especially those who work here pay taxes then leave after a few yrs without using schools/hospitals etc0 -

Depends if the immigrant workers bring increased productivity and efficiency with them. Which I rather suspect they do.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.

The Germans also hated the British construction workers taking their jobs back it the 80's what goes around comes around.0 -
At the end of the day who cares?
The OP is moaning about his lot. I had to start from FA aged 35. I managed to get on the housing ladder.
The girl he is on about is only 1 shag away from getting herself sorted out as well. Loads of single birds are in crap positions. They go down the disco, meet some rich fella, marry them. Problem solved.
If like he says she aint bad looking then she has no worries.
If you have the drive you will get what you want. If you cant cut the mustard you will end up in a bedsit moaning. Simple.
Please tell me you are just having a bit of a leg pull here, surely that's what it is.
If not, what a vile creature you are0 -
I know ones that do nothing and get thousands in handouts from the government.
yes and i know alot more white english people who are the same and have never worked a day in their lives and have no intention of doing so, but that doesnt mean we have to tar others with the same brush.0 -

No that isnt the case that i see, in the past on various sites for various firms i have had to go and snag plenty of immigrants work in the past due to the clerk of works not handing jobs over because the work that has been done by them was basically crap.
When an immigrant comes over and decides he wants to work in the construction industry he can either, work on the side, work for a one man band who doesnt care if the immigrant has the relevant trade or health and safety qualifications, or he can work for a main contractor. If he chooses to work for the main contractor he will be asked to show his cscs card which he wont have so what happens then is the immigrant goes on a course for a fortnight and comes back "qualified".
I am a carpenter/bench joiner and i had to do a 4 year apprentiship and also attend college throughout serving my time. (bit more than ten days)
At the moment i am working for a firm that doesnt employ immigrants due to the majority of them not being able to work to the level that is needed to complete jobs on time or to complete them to a high standard, i consider myself lucky that my firm takes a pride in the jobs they take on because if they didnt then i would likely be replaced by an immigrant who will work for a lot less money and deliver a finished job to the "ah that will be alright i reckon" standard.
I do agree that plenty of immigrants come to britain and get a job and work hard but within my line of work i see very little of that type of worker.0
