Souk - your worries seem pretty rational to me? the need for survival is a basic one - and that is all you are worried about really, not being able to afford to survive.
Re the claiming benefit thing though - [RANT] remind me again, you pay NI contributions - yes? So what EXACTLY do you think you are paying these for? Presumably when you reach retirement age you won't be sending your pension payments back to the chancellor with a note attached saying "No thanks - I like to provide for myself personally!" (If you are planning this, let me know, you can send them to me and I'll pass them on.....*coughs* honest!
) - you pay NI contributions for just that very eventuality though, so if it is needed you ARE fully entitled to it. [/RANT]
It's OK - I've stopped now!
Right - just trying to get through to the campsite we plan to use for 5 nights at the end of the month - I don't actually *need* to book as we don't use an electric hook-up but it makes me feel better to know we have, IYKWIM. They are on the phone at the moment though so I shall have to try again.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Souk, do you have an emergency fund? Might it make you feel better to build towards, say, the equivalent of 3 months wages so you feel you've got a bit of a cushion?
I also find it helpful (although some people don't) to think about what I *am* willing to do if I lose my job while I'm temporarily waiting to find another fabulous one - perfectly happy to do temporary bar work, or cleaning, or handing out leaflets, or factory work - I've done all of these before, sometimes enjoyed them, and while I'd personally rather they weren't my permanent job, it makes me feel safer knowing that I'm willing to be a jack of all trades should the need arise.0 -
Cheery thats what the buffer fund is. Its nowhere near 3 months salary but by the end of this contract it will be about 2K which will help at least. And I'd be willing to do anything pretty much to keep a roof over my head. Ive done random jobs in the past and its not that Im above doing them again, more that I worry about my quality of life if on a carp salary. Also I HAVE to see other people and get out and about to stay sane, its part of my make up and that tends to cost a bit. I know, I know theres free stuff like walking and all that, but honestly I dont enjoy that so doing it wouldnt make me happy IYSWIM.'The road to a friends house is never long'0

I do indeed see, sorry, didn't spot your buffer fund in your signature!0

I think it's particularly a female thing to worry like that. Financial advisers all seem to find that every woman they talk to fears ending up as a bag lady, even if they are in really good jobs. Maybe we are more wired to want to be 'safe' than the average man even if safe means different things to different women.
And MG, speaking as the mother of a 21 year old who is going to have to launch herself on a bleak job market when she gets into her final year at uni, don't believe that the students you saw are as carefree as they may look. They are all TERRIFIED about their prospects and worry about whether they will end up being glad to get a job as a baristaIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -

Before William went here I would agree - now the students are mostly blonde American trustafarians (secretly hoping to bag a minoe Royal)-but they do know what Barrista's are - they should St A has more coffee shops than you can shake a stick at:rotfl:
Minor hiccup at MG Manor - got back today to find that my Yale Lock had "double -locked" and I couldn't get me and the kids in. And as usual that ONLY happens when you have starving kids and you are desperate to wee:cool:
Borrowed a ladder from the Joinery shop opposite (no joiners in residence just book-keeper lady) and "broke-in" through DS2's sash window. Inching my way up the ladder in case of a spasm - must have looked a sight ..................
................ but I did it - and we are in - and the boys are fed.
Alls well I suppose - but proves to me that I am not nearly so wimpy as I would like to believe.
Off to make a pot of tea and take some painkillers (sore head rather than back for some reason)
TTFN Lovely ladies

MG - you are braver than I would be. I don't do ladders. Ever. Scared of heights... plus a total wuss!!
I have something of note to report to the Matrix... Ladies... I have embarked on getting the CIPFA portfolio completed. I have booked 3 whole days in my diary in the next two weeks to do nothing but portfolio stuff. I have plugged myself into my music and I am ignoring the world and concentrating on getting the damned thing done. All positive vibes for a smooth conclusion to this flipping horrible piece of work would be most gratefully received. Thank you!!
Right, best get back to it. The cowbag is annoying me intensely today. I have had to resist the opportunity to choke her on several occasions. She is still breathing... so yay me!"A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort"Herm Albright 1876-19440 -

That's cruel - but funny :rotfl:
Just discovered that my "In Work Credit" claim has been shut:eek:
Called up the office (they are usually very helpful) to find out that they have shut the claim because I am "back on benefits" - erm!!! nope, I'm not actually.
So now have to make an appointment with Claim Advisor a Job Centre next week to restart the claim
Just when I was getting on an even keel - still its forty pounds per week - and you ladies know how far I can make £40 go. The Ultimate Grocery Challenge is now deadly serious till this is srorted.
On a positive note - because it looks to be their foul up I will get the back payments repaid :T - even more positive, at least it wasn't the Tax Credits this time
Thank goodness for Internet banking - eh?

Just checked the Scottish Election news - no suprises that the SNP won - my gast has been well and truly flabbered by how much though.
Not that the "con-dems" read here, but Scotland has spoken - and it's saying "No ta, to your policies" Mind you Labour have taken a pounding too so I don't think all is forgiven and forgotten in that camp either.
Now, heads down ladies - I refuse to take part in this recessiona any more - abundance and joy only for my friends please.
