Thanks for all the positive vibes sent today, was a very odd meeting - bearing in mind 4 of the six people in the room hate each other.

School's results are a serious concern to the local authority (no surprise there I have been number crunching) and we need 'support' to help us get better.

Boss and chair of govs came out fuming and I came out feeling very positive - they see it as an attack on the school, I saw it as the fact that things have been going a bit crap and there are a lot of things that need fixing. Personally I came out thinking - cool - chance to change things for the better, learn stuff, work hard at improving stuff and very quietly this would also look nice on any future CV of mine if we can improve things.

Oh and they hadn't even noticed my huge mistake, so glad I didn't spend much time dwelling on it

MG - wanted to send (((hugs))) you are not old and fat, you have a bad back which is getting you down - mine does the same for me when it is hurting and I feel like a blobby old pensioner when it is really bad.
    Mortgage £119,533 going down slowly
    Emergency fund £1000/£1000
    Savings for big things £9017

Do you know what... I have no idea how it happened?! Over the last few months I have been really economising and beginning to practise "living simply". I have not been buying stuff that I don't really need. And by doing that since Christmas my bank balance has been going up, and up and up. :D I do think it is the Universe sending me a message. :D I am recieving it, loud and clear!! :D

I did this too at the start of the year, well I saved money each month into savings accounts, just ten quid here and 15 quid there the accounts were all over the place and I didn't pay attention, it turns out I had enough money to get me out of a very difficult situation this month! Yesterday went from being utterly !!!!! to being ok, was relieved to see the bank accounts sorted.

So I am sitting in the middle of the universty town after this hour or so - sipping a cup of coffee from my flask (MSE Rools :D) and I'm watching all these students meander past.

The seem like they don't have a care in the world - just starting off in life, a whole exciting future to look forward too................ and it made me really sad. I'm in my 40's. I should be at the peak of my earning potential, I should be reaping the reward for all my hard work and instead I am sitting in a dodgy old banger, drinking coffee from a flask and not knowing what to do next.

    I should, I should, I should - bah!!!!!!

Feeling old, fat, sore and tired. Typical Mid-life blah!!!!

So time to dust myself off and prove to myself that I can rise again from nearly being wiped out by the Big Horse Bank.

Felt better when I got a huge hig from DS2 when I collected him though :D

Off to vote now - if you don't vote I think you get the Government you deserve!!!

    MG

    PS Whinge over :o

I often go through the "shoulds" list in my life. I don't have any of it and probably never will. Its very hard sometimes, i think everyone has those moments when they wish things were different and it isn't fair. For me it is children and a husband, literally everyone I know has either been married is in a relationship and has kids. I genuinely do not understand why I never met anyone or even really had that sort of a relationship but its not for everyone I guess.

Inch by inch things do change, almost imperceptively we move (whether we want to or not). I know I am different then I used to be even tho to others I am still in my crappy job and live with my Mum. I feel I can never say anything because everyone's pat answer is move out and get a new job, both are obviously possible but not something I feel I can do yet.

I think you have to remember what you know, things are changing and you will get there- in fact you are doing it every day.

Discovered that sitting in the car is the most comfortable I have been all week - although the getting in and out is a little ropey.:o

AH MG, here's a wee story for you:

A few years ago a girl worked in a shop. She had had lots of adventures and fun but no money and it made her sad when she saw people come into her shop and falsh the cash. One day she could take it no more and asked her wise mother 'Why do they have cash and I have none'. She laughed and said 'My lovely girl, whilst you were enjoying the sun and fun and meals out and trips off on boats these women were grafting away in offices with drab women in cardis who talk about soaps. They could be up to their eyeballs in debt, they could be too scared to leave their men in case they end up skint, you don't know. All you can know is that NO ONE GETS TO HAVE IT ALL, AND YOU HAVE LOTS OF AMAZING MEMORIES....DOES IT MATTER THAT YOU CANT BUY NEW CLOTHES SO OFTEN'

MG that girl was me and another amazing fun woman with a great life behind AND in front of her is YOU. Think of your lovely boys, think of your drag queen pals, think of Eva Peron and her fur coat, all these things make me think of you. You are NOT old and you are certainly NOT fat. XXXX

Sounds like you have a wise Mum Souk - thank you- and of course of all your support the one point that hitt closest to home (above in Red). A woman (In the film version not RL which is a lot more suspect) who decided to have in her life exactly what she wanted, in her own time, on her own terms - never a victim. Her trade off was dying so young.

................. mind you, even Eva had her wobbles

If your life is a suitcase and you can only carry along so many "things", then I'm proposing on spend some time getting rid of the things that no longer serve me and replacing them with things that do. I'm keeping the kids, but losing some stuff that brings me down.

I can then be skint but still looking and feeling fabulous in my "fur coat".

First project - batteries for the MP3 player and start collecting Musical Soundtracks again (I know I'm sad, but there is nothing like a musical for motivating you).

Time to metaphorically slap on the glitter, the high heels and the frou-frou and going out and getting what I want in life instead of waiting for it to "magically happen" - face it we are too long in the tooth to waiting around for Price Charming.

    Off to find my lippy

    Many Thanks

Claire we have just had a new boiler fitted with a five year guarantee and we paid £1900 so that may be the "going rate". Some of the big companies quoted over £3000 for similiar work:eek:. We said no politely.

Amd we too needed new pipes near the boiler, which were included, along with the flush of the system.

    Hope that helps

Have you seen a movie called Up in the Air (apart from everything George Cloony is in it). There are two ideas it promotes: a) one should travvel light; and b) life is a rucksack. The question is what are you going to take in your rucksack?

I have been muling over that since I saw the movie - and as usual I have a great problem to chose, really chose what is in my rucksack.
