MG - there is no should or shouldn't about where anyone is at any stage of their life. My view (for what it's worth) is that each of us is where we are meant to be. Had you had an easier, more straightforward journey to this point you probably wouldn't have developed the survival skills you have; you wouldn't have inspired all of us on here and I'm sure others you come into contact with in the real world; you wouldn't be the girl you are today. Do not look at the present and regret what might have been. Celebrate your journey and respect who you are today.

I SO agree with that. A friend who had a whole series of serious problems once said that she started to cope better when she realised that all these people who seemed so happy and well off had just not had their difficulties yet. Students * eye-rolls smiley*, they really don't have a clue! I know, I've taught them.

As for feeling old, I hadn't started my third career when I was your age and the third was the most satisfying and successful in terms of enjoyment and fulfillment. From each stage in our lives, we take something on with us and it is sometimes the most surprising thing - as an examle, I learnt to type at school and never used the skill till computers appeared and touch typing was a huge advantage. I really thought that was something I would never need.

We all have days when we are down and need to let it out - it's one of the advantages of this forum and having your own diary. You can just do a 'brain dump' and get it out of your system, knowing that others have been there and that those who haven't will know they are not alone when it happens to them.
But how can you know what you want till you get what you want and you see if you like it?

OMG!!!! Focus DIY in administration ..............

Thankfully I didn't order the plasterboard from them - Eh??

Another one gone - soon these out of town estates will be ghost towns.

I've got cucumbers (marketmores) and globe courgettes peeping through. And my spinach in my easy water containers have sprouted everywhere.

DS2 is washed and in his cutie Iggle Piggle jammies that the Jammie Fairy got him for Christmas ad looking waaaaaaayyyyy cute. So soon it will be bedtime and I will get my Mummy High-5 and a cuddle.

Off to have a quick bath and fill ahottie to get rid of the ache from beng in the car - so positvity is on its way back.

My old boss has offered to buy the Focus DIY stores - the guy who owns the Range. I could tell some stories about him!

Claire - do your quotes say what type of boiler, make of boiler, and more importantly what power output they would use?

I don't think the price is high, you just need to check the details.

Also - how old are your radiators? They must at the very least flush them through. New radiators are much more efficient.

Depending on when your system was fitted, they may have to replace the pipes from the gas suply to the boiler. I believe the rules are 22mm instead of the old 15mm. Make sure that's part of the quote.

To give you an idea, last February, I paid £1700 for resiting my boiler, replacing all the outside pipes, smashing a big hole in my wall for the 'exhaust'. I got a Worcester 30Kwh combi condensing boiler. I also paid £600 for 7 new radiators and jiggling of pipes where appropriate. He moved one from kitchen to hallway.

The work took 2 days and was pretty hassle free really. Boiler was done by the time I got home on day 1 and he was gone by 2pm on day 2 - when he did radiators.

When you get your proper written quote, pop up the details, and then we can look to make sure eveything's included.

All the boilers that have been done in our area have had the pipes done - i think it's pretty standard, so they probably include it in the price. Worth making sure though. I know I had a shock when I came home and say this nest of pipes along the wall outside.

As long as they are reputable firms, and the quotes are within a couple of hundred pounds, then they are ok :D

I only know because I've done it.

MG - this is a super, super quote from Sue and a viewpoint that I wish I had learnt at a much younger age.

Unfortunately, our consumer society is just one big "should" and "expectation" machine - you should go to school, get qualifications, get a job, get promotions, go on holidays to exotic locations, buy a house, buy a car, buy a bigger house, buy a bigger car, buy another car, decorate your house, fill it with all the latest gadgets and gizmos and on and on and on......

When you are tired, exhausted, in pain, without a penny to your name the "shoulds" and "shouldn'ts" gain power. Rest, let your back heal and love your boys - everything else (including the mentors) can wait and stop calling yourself wimpy :naughty:

AH MG, here's a wee story for you:

A few years ago a girl worked in a shop. She had had lots of adventures and fun but no money and it made her sad when she saw people come into her shop and falsh the cash. One day she could take it no more and asked her wise mother 'Why do they have cash and I have none'. She laughed and said 'My lovely girl, whilst you were enjoying the sun and fun and meals out and trips off on boats these women were grafting away in offices with drab women in cardis who talk about soaps. They could be up to their eyeballs in debt, they could be too scared to leave their men in case they end up skint, you don't know. All you can know is that NO ONE GETS TO HAVE IT ALL, AND YOU HAVE LOTS OF AMAZING MEMORIES....DOES IT MATTER THAT YOU CANT BUY NEW CLOTHES SO OFTEN'

MG that girl was me and another amazing fun woman with a great life behind AND in front of her is YOU. Think of your lovely boys, think of your drag queen pals, think of Eva Peron and her fur coat, all these things make me think of you. You are NOT old and you are certainly NOT fat. XXXX
