Re: energy prices. Fixed deals cost more but insulate you from price rises, they are currently few and far between because of the press excitement. However, I'm coming off a Scottish Power deal and they seem to be offerring me another!

I think that on-line prices will remain competitive (they never mention standard or on-line prices in the press). For me, there are other things to consider, like it is important to be able to speak to a person in the UK and to be able to enter my meter readings each month so I can see how much I am spending.

My gut reaction would be that getting a deal that you are happy with and monitoring on-going fuel useage is a better way to go that a 'I must fix, panic reaction'. The freezer and making food in batches sounds like a great idea!!! (thanks for ziploc tip Tricia)

My problem is that they don't believe how little fuel we use for a house our size ............ and long may that continue.

Will "winter-proof" the rental rooms in the Autumn holidays - double drapes, thermal blinds, duvet under sheets etc as well as popping electric blankets onto the beds so that the gas bills can stay reasonable.

College goes back at the end of August - so I have got a fortnight to get the rooms chip-shape for viewings.

we did the price fix thing some years ago and boy was it a shock when it came to an end. Have fixed agin til next year but at a much higher rate than we had before:eek:

Good thing though is I now put in monthly readings and we can see month by month what we are using and although we use muh les fuel than we did before the cost is much higher so it is only now we can see what a good deal it was.

we are on a major effort to reduce the cost of fuel so last year we had that film that seals the windows and it stopped a lot of draughts. We are replacing the main problem window with a double glazed one (for some reason the only window in the house that the previous owner did not double glaze so hope that will help too.

So excited - going to London to see Les Mis this weekend.

    Have a good holiday Crickett.

Great news about the script MG

Sorry not been able to keep up this week, but hugs to everyone who needs them.

Well done on the script MG. I kind of agree with FW re not looking at your future based on the way you live today. However, if you are making the meals based on Tricia's point
There is also the advantage of time saving. Your 'patchwork' income streams will depend on seizing opportunities quickly and having the reserve meals means you can do that without distraction.
then I say to go for it. This is a much more sound reason for doing this as you will be very busy once that script is accepted.

First day of my holidays today and I have spent the morning lounging. I think that is allowed as I am recovering from a very very long week working at the Royal Welsh show. So this afternoon I am off to my course. I am being very positive about it because it is at the local college, which means that I can pick up the prospectus for next years courses. I am also having a lunch date with Mr C which will be nice. A picnic is packed and ready to go. Couscous with roasted meditteranean vegetables, falafel, houmous and crudites and a bottle of homemade elderflower cordial. Yum.

  • 45 minutes to go until I am out of here!! :D Not that I am counting! Unfortunately, my friend has cancelled on me (we were going to meet up for a cuppa and a chinwag before I head to the counsellor) but that is okay... now I can grab a sandwich, eat it leisurely and then head off to the counsellor without going utterly nuts. Got to be a good thing! :)

So, I had a chat with my boss, cleared a few things up, explained why I was confused with the year end and got the right answers. She was lovely about it, and then made sure I understood what was going on and why. I had a giant cosmic blonde moment yesterday I think! I have made my year end list of jobs to do when I get back and made sure that my areas know what is going on. I have even had a look at the bottom line as it stands at the moment. :D Go me!:j

Right...back to the to do list to see what else I can get off it before I leave.

    Morning all

I've been to the laundrette and washed the last of the winter duvets - feel very pleased with myself as this has been on my list for weeks but the weather turned. A couple of dry days forcast so should get them bone dry. Did most of Mum's tax return whilst there too with a cuppa - amazing how easy it is to settle out of the house with the hum of machines in the background.

Good idea to put duvets under sheets in winter - I shall remember that - thanks MG

Cricket I'm glad you spoke to your boss, possi vibes for your counselling session

Going to spend an hour getting the downstairs of the house ship shape before early finish for the boys.

I want to spend the weekend starting to get ready for our holiday and we have a family to dinner on Saturday night too.

Script sent, call achieved, shopping done, bread going in oven for lunch -and its still not even 12.

Don't know what's happening Chez MG - but long may it continue.

It looks like it is going to pelt down here, so I'm off to take my laundry inside, have a lovely lunch then business plan time.

My utility company was charging me about £65 a month and then said it needed to go up to £117 per month. I phoned and said I couldn't afford that but I could go as far as £90 per month, which they agreed to. He did say I would be about £60 under over the quarter, so I paid about £55 extra over the monthly payment so that I wouldn't be too far behind. The next bill came in and it said they were putting my monthly payment down to £65 again! I phoned and asked them to keep it at £90 so hopefully I can build up a bit of credit for the winter.

I think they just make the figures up! :rotfl:

Yay, I'm off on holiday too :) Just packing up the car, wondering what I'm bound to have forgotten as I am the queen of stuffing something in my bag at the last minute and wearing it to death or leaving my coat on the sofa and then getting to the holiday destination for 2 weeks of rain ;)!!
