You're not like that MG... you work hard not to be.
Time to declutter your toxic 'friends'0 -
Good news day today - finished work (technically) for the summer hols although this is my breather space to get re-organised and re-energised for next year....have booked a campsite for next week...have just received cheques from my olds and m-i-l for our wedding anniversary present for our wall......totalling £1500!!!!!!!!! Am still in shock! Just got to squeeze the rest out of a savings plan that we started for rainy days when we first got married.
My olds also brought across their old table and chairs as they have got a new smaller set after the flood and there is only a titchy bit of damage on the table (compared to our toddlered set) makes the room look like a new house.
Is definitely wine o'clock.....Mortgage £119,533 going down slowly
Emergency fund £1000/£1000
Savings for big things £90170 -

I am really lucky Greenbee - she is truly the only "Energy Vampire" in my life. I guess that's why when she does get in touch I have such a strong reaction.
My friends in RL - and here - and in RL that I met on here IYSWIM are a pretty positive lot - but sometimes it takes someone who takes an opposite view of the world to make me appreciate just how lucky I am to have you guys.
Actually strike that - how lucky we all are to have one another.
Off to give DS2 a cuddle and bedtime story.

The feedback from last week's house viewers is like Goldilocks and the Three Bears: first lot: house too big, second lot: house too small - and third lot have changed their minds about moving house... so they were blowing hot and cold... :rotfl::rotfl:and not a bowl of porridge in sight...
one of these days someone will think this house is just right for them!
MG - luck - no - you're making the most of every opportunity presented to you, being courageous and diligent, working really hard to get the script done! At the same time as giving your boys a great time in the school hols and keeping the rest of us going with encouraging posts and delicious and frugalicious recipes!! And working out how to start taking in lodgers.
You're amazing and inspirational and a joy to know, and don't you forget it!!
GQ xoxIf you have a talent, use it in every which way possible. Don't hoard it. Don't dole it out like a miser. Spend it lavishly like a millionaire intent on going broke.

See - that's what I mean - positive peeps on here even when life isn't playing ball for the moment.
The good news is that my back is much better - hence being able to even contemplate prepping the letting rooms .......................... and to celebrate it being a Friday I'm going to brew a pot of Earl Grey and lift a cup to you all.

Greenbee - Moths - still not sure if I have them, not seen a single one and nothing obvious in the wardrobe - it is only my clothes affected and only stuff which is cotton or wool. In case I do - how long do I have to freeze clothes for? Where can I buy the Doom from?
Had a nice time in the front garden getting some jobs done, I've accepted now there will always be more jobs so to just do the bits that are urgent or I fancy doing.
Just having a cuppa and then I'm going to defuzz some jumper and wash and freeze them!
Duvets are now drying inside - it could take a while.
My mind is active with possible ideas for the future. I love holidays for planning and September is such a good time to start new venture (and buy new pencils :rotfl:)The birds of sadness may fly overhead but don't let them nest in your hair0 -
My utility company was charging me about £65 a month and then said it needed to go up to £117 per month. I phoned and said I couldn't afford that but I could go as far as £90 per month, which they agreed to. He did say I would be about £60 under over the quarter, so I paid about £55 extra over the monthly payment so that I wouldn't be too far behind. The next bill came in and it said they were putting my monthly payment down to £65 again! I phoned and asked them to keep it at £90 so hopefully I can build up a bit of credit for the winter.
I think they just make the figures up! :rotfl:
I changed ours this summer and had - wait for it - drum roll -
over £300 in over-payment returned. The monthly bill halved as well.Thrifty wrote:Now in the past I was one of those people (at least 4x a year) and I sat there wondering who actually had the money to spend and who was spending money they didn't have just to conform or because they were worth it. I feel like I don't belong any more, I just don't know anyone like me in real-life - don't really know what I am saying, I don't want to go back but it feels odd being "outside the machine".
Another example, my friend wanted me and dd to go with her and her dd to Disneyland Paris. I told her that we couldn't afford it. Her answer was that if I really wanted to, I would find a way and get the money somehow - !!!!!! was that supposed to imply. Anyway the answer remained no, what I really truly want is to be free. I don't want to owe a single penny to anyone.
I'll stop wittering now, just wondered if anyone else felt at odds with the world around them.
Holds up hand! I feel more in tune with the folk on here than most people in RL. I read somewhere (probably on here.:rotfl:) that capitalism is buying things you don't want with money you don't have to impress people you don't like!MG wrote:I've just been trapped on the phone for an hour with a lass I was at school with and used to be quite friendly with.
I feel drained, emotionally wrung out and could kick myself for not pleading a "toddler emergency" and getting off the phone PDQ!
But you know the theory that the stuff that annoys you about other people is stuff you need to look at about yourself??
Well now I am really depressed
I don't know if anyone on here has even heard of the 1964 book 'Games People Play' by James Berne. According to Berne (who I like as a psychologist because he agrees with me :rotfl:) your friend is playing 'Yes, but'. In other words she does not want a solution but to tie you in to her justification of her problem - continuing with this conversation will not help her and will end up with you feeling depressed. The toddler emergency would have been a good ploy. Please don't project her stupid views onto your own life. You are doing great!:T:T:T
Hugs to all who need them. We've been to Pensthorpe today - where Springwatch is filmed - and it is excellent. But how can you know what you want till you get what you want and you see if you like it?0 -
Evening all. Dora, wow what a present. How close to getting the wall does that bring you?
MG, now you just know that you are not like that friend so dont even go there. Screening calls is my favourite thing at the moment.
Well, I thoroughly enjoyed my speed awareness course. So how many of you knew there were five different kinds of crossings?
Zebra, Pelican, Puffin, Toucan, Pegasus. But which one is especially to allow horses to cross and which one allows pedestrians and cyclists to cross together? Some days there aren't any trumpets, just lots of dragons. Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, I will try again tomorrow -- Mary Anne Radmacher0
