Well, I was beginning to flag a few minutes ago, so I thought I would make plans for when we move house. Our perfect buyer is waiting for our house, I know it... and so I am going to encourage the Universe by making plans for when it happens!
1) I am going to make lovely cotton covers for our sofa and chairs. I have some old covers already and so I just need to unpick them and then iron them out for them to be the pattern pieces. This will mean I will have maximum choice of what colours and decor we are going to have in our new house. At the moment, I am thinking flowery/chintzy type things, but I did see a lovely patchwork print as well yesterday whilst browsing the web ... so who knows!!
2) We are going to get a puppy. Or a rescue doggy. Obviously, they need to be really good with cats... so a puppy might be easier from that point of view. I am going to set aside the money we will need to buy food/lead/bowls/beds etc as well as sizeable chunk of change if we decide to go with a puppy... we shall see! I am currently thinking of a labrador... but I did see the cutest cocker spaniel/springer spaniel as well... so its all up in the air really. I am not so worried about leaving the pup for too long, because I will be home much earlier than I am at the moment. And the cats and the puppy can all get into lots of trouble together!!
I think that is quite enough plans for now!!"A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort"Herm Albright 1876-19440 -
To whoever said I'm 20, I'm 18
I shall ring up about a grant for the insurance and spare leads etc. I'm trying to put a list together of what I should do first but I don't know....Savings £8,865.22 £/15,000 Aiming to save enough for a house deposit.0 -
Willow:
Help with your lists!
1) Get your leaflets out before any thing.- People need to know you are offering the service.
i2) Contact local Job Centre, Connexions and Business Link for advice on start up costs and grants available.
3) Contact local vets etc for advice on what they think you need.
Connexions are the advisory body for all issues relating to young people, they cover everything from employment to homelessness. Telephone number should be available on Google for your local area.
Don't spend any money on setting up until you have researched it.Debt at start of DMP 1/6/09: £2942 - £1942

Willow: Have just Googled Connexions and for Staffordshire. Loads of advice out there so just get on there and see what you can find.
Sorry, that was bossy. I used to work in Youthwork and know how useful they are!Debt at start of DMP 1/6/09: £2942 - £1942

Ta, I've emailed the Princes Trust and I think they're ringing me later. I've got to sort the grant before the insurance so I'll wait for that. I'll also start writing up adverts etc. oh and pricing up leads and muzzles and stuff like that.
Oh and unrelated to dog walking, do you have to pay a recruitment agency? There's one in town but I have no idea how they work. I emailed them my CV last night and they want me to go and visit. It's in case the dog walking thing doesn't work. That probably sounds really stupid....Savings £8,865.22 £/15,000 Aiming to save enough for a house deposit.0 -

Hi there Willow!
You shouldn't need to pay for leads and muzzles etc, as surely your clients will have dog walking equipment? Just my accountant "money saving" head on there!
As for recruitment agencies... they earn their money on placing you with a client. They pay you one fee, and charge a different fee (higher, naturally!) to the company you are working at, and the difference is called their margin. If any agency asks you to pay them for anything, then walk out immediately!!"A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort"Herm Albright 1876-19440 -
As the potential employee you should not pay an agency anything (in fact I think it's illegal for them to try and charge you anything).
They will want to see you to register you on their database and maybe have a chat about your skills.
If you're seeking admin type work, they might also want you to do a word/excel test or maybe typing speed and such like,
Don't register with one agency, register will all of them. Office Angels, Blue Arrow, Manpower, Reed, Kelly - there are LOTS!
Also, get a good CV done and upload it to monster.com, and use the resource.
Best of luck x0 -

I was thinking a couple of spare leads just in case theirs breaks or something similar. Also one of those travel water bottles for dogs and I'd carry these things in a bag on my back so I'll have my hands free for dogs.
Thanks for clearing that up about agencies, I wasn't sure coz I've never signed up to one beforeSavings £8,865.22 £/15,000 Aiming to save enough for a house deposit.0
