For me, it is my Dad who is the unrelenting source of negativity in my life. His voice is the voice of the nasty things that get said in my head... you know about my weight and what I eat and how I am a great big failure. I have been raised on this acid and have been listening to it for 37 years... well, not since I became part of the Matrix and read The Secret and The Power. I also know it drives him totally nuts that I am being positive. Is it wrong that I like that?! :)

Today appears to be slightly lighter around the edges than yesterday. I hope it continues. I had very, very little sleep last night, so I suspect I will be flagging by the end of the day!

Loving the Scottish Abbot MG, there's lots of them about up here.

Its the default 'can't' isnt it, with a wee bit of 'should' thrown in. Theres also a good helping of 'It's all right for you' and 'When I was your age' to tell you how to live, even though Im not convinced that a lot of these sorts would know how to enjoy life even if you paid them to do it!!!

My mum is thankfully very cheery but she gets it all the time. One friend told her to 'just keep your son near you so you dont lose him like you have the girls' :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:We barely fart but my mother knows about it, she's hardly lost us. We just chose not to live two doors down from her is all. Luckily we can laugh at it all. I refer to this woman as her deaf friend anyway as she once asked my plans, so I told her them and she replied with something she wanted to hear which was rather different. I dont think they mean it, they're just tunneled in their thinking about how to live a life.

Oh and girls what is it I need to ask the universe for in terms of weightloss again? Been ages since I read it but it made sense. X

    It's my mother for me...

I remember once when I was a child telling her she was wrong, or thick, or something (I don't remember precisely). Instead of being a sensible adult and telling the 6/7 year old kid to stop being so cheeky, she was so determined to prove me wrong that we both had to do a Mensa test (which I beat her at because I was a kid, mwuahahahah!)

I can think of hundreds of incidents where she controlled me, and others where she would do anything to get her own way.... and I was such a fool and let her. I never ever stood up to her...

... and now she's had the stroke, so I can't.

No no, not bitter at all... now that I am strong enough to fight her for once, I can't - because she can't fight back, and that would be cruel.

She told me just 3 weekends ago that I was lazy, and fat! Nice!

Now, it's my dad's 65th birthday next Tuesday - what can I get him? Any ideas?

Thankfully I am veeeeeeeeeeery slowly dismantling my moms negative speak. I don't think she'll ever be instinctively positive but when she says these unintentionally negative things to me I helpfully point them out or question her wisdom with a "so what?, what's the worst that will happen?". She's not deliberately being mean but it's like yesterday my mum and dad complimented me about how well I looked yesterday....the term yummy mummy was even mentioned. And then my mum said "just remember this when I point out you don't look so good"........argggggh she just doesn't get that I am a) no longer 5 years old and b) permission from another human being on what to wear in the morning. Sure some days I probably do look like a dogs dinner.......I know this. I OWN a mirror. I don't need her pointing it out to me. This is one of those conversations we've had a number of times........eventually it will sink in. won't it? :rotfl:

Souk - I prefer not to specifically ask for weightloss.....I prefer to concentrate on what I want which is a slim healthy body but that's just me :)

TMIF - forgive me but if she's capable of telling you that you're fat and lazy you are well within your rights to put her straight ;) Stroke or not. xxx No idea what you could get your dad.....what does he like to do??
