Goooood morning...oops afternoon Matrix!!
I had a lie in, breakfast in bed and a darned good read of my Kindle this morning. Had to force myself out of bed and into the shower and to get dressed. Have decided that work (gardening etc et al) can wait. I have tomorrow off as well, and I suspect I am going to feel very similar then. Having said that, this rest is incredibly cathartic for me. i have had no time off since Christmas other than to do chores and go to funerals, I have been ill at least twice since then and I was utterly exhausted when I broke up for Easter. Now, I am just mildly tired and feel almost back to normal. I am even flirting with hubby... which has rather caught him on the back foot!!
Good to keep him unbalanced a bit!!
So the plan for today is to read some more, do some more crochet, maybe potter round the garden a little bit (but maybe not!) and soak up some vitamin D from the sunshine. Have a wonderful day Matrix.

I did a Masters whilst working but was lucky that I got study leave - do you get that? If you did would you be able to catch up?
we wouldn't get study leave....however the long weekend next week is some free time..........Cheery_Daff wrote: »Buffy - gosh, that's a difficult one. July is still a good couple of months, and more, away, so I'd say it really depends on you. Why aren't you doing it at the minute? Be honest - with yourself even if you don't share it here. Maybe ask yourself some questions:
- why did you start it in the first place? Is that reason still there? If not, why not?
- Why aren't you working on it now? Is it too difficult? have you asked for help? Who from? Or is it too easy? Is there something you could do to make it more challenging?
- if you finish it, what will it enable you to do? If you don't finish it, what will it stop you from doing?
- is anyone else relying on you to finish? Or expecting you to?
- if you've not been doing it for a while, why haven't you given up already?
- imagine 6 months down the line if you don't finish it - will you regret it? Or will you be glad you had the time to spend on something else?
- what other things do you have to do in the next 2 months? Because you can get plenty done in 2 months, but it's really not a long time out of your life to put a few other things on hold. What would you have to shift to make room for it in your life?
I find that if something's become a bit of a burden, you can either get rid of it, or you can change your attitude to it and apply yourself in new ways to make it fun again, or at least useful. It sounds like you'd like to finish the masters, and it'd be a shame not to use the time you've already spent on it, so I reckon sit yourself down and have a good long think about why you want to give up - if it's only because you can't be bothered (or whatever) - ask yourself honestly is that a good enough reason? (it might be!)
(sorry, lots of questions there, I'm sure you've already asked yourself some of them at least!)
MG - how long would that give you? You do like a challenge, and I've got no doubt you could get your teeth into it if you tried! :T :T Why not work out exactly what you'd have to do to get there and let us know and see what it feels like?
Thank you ladies, I did post some thoughts on my diary, I shall think some more. The course leader is actually very nice so I have e mailed her too.
I wanted it so badly when we started...but I am so bad at self discipline and getting things done.......I am going to go think some more whilst doing something practical
thank you again xxxNevertheless she persisted.0 -
Buffy, I think what others said is correct. You will need to ask yourself:
1) Why did you start
2) What would this change (giving up or completing)
3) Can you live with the consequences of giving up (how would you feel as well as others)
4) What is the investment you have made so far
5) What really needs to be done
6) What are you busy with (are just busy or productive? would it be more productive to cut out some of what you are busy with and get on with the Masters).
I generally believe that education and qualifications never hurt.

It's a beautiful sunny day here, am off for a bike ride in a bit. Been meaning to go on one for the last 3 days so maybe this is my "frog"??
Hopefully some more gardening in my jungle later, I want to try and set up a square foot garden if I can
I'm also not sure what makes my heart sing for my 15 minutes a day.....may try gardening or crafts of some kindMortgage: 2011: 86000 - now: 499000 -
Good afternoon
I had a lie in this morning, and haven't done much since, I'm refusing, DS1 is cleaning his bedroom so now the whole house is lovely and clean.
Going to pop out later and go down the shed to try and find some white paint to finish the dining room. And maybe to to b&Q to get the last lot of coving, only need 1 piece then the dining room is finished. Plus some wallpaper has started to peel in the bay so need to get that stuck back on.Boiler pot £30.92/£10000 -
afternoon all
had a lovely weekend of relaxing and am now doing some productive stuff to keep the balance
MG - thank you for putting up the 15 min heart singing challenge.
I have thought about this over the last couple of days. My instrument is the harp, and while I am classically trained, I have been experimenting with more jazz and contemporary stuff of late. I did a jazz harp course in Rotterdam last year which really tipped me up and turned me inside out in terms of musical philosophy/approach, and I have not really kept on top of it which is a shame. At the moment I am working on lots of big classical stuff which I have wanted to play for ages, but it's difficult and while this is a good challenge and one I have willingly taken on, I have to remind myself that I play for fun as well!
So. I am going to pledge to try and work on fun stuff (either my own writing or some jazz standards) for 15 mins each day. I practice for about an hour each day (would love to do more but day job gets in the way, plus have picked up an injury so have to be super careful at the mo) so an extra 15 mins of thinking differently shouldn't be too arduous
CheeryDaff, thanks for your post to Buffy - it will help me to think about a few other things going on at work which I am hesitating over. Buffy I hope you can make the right decision for you
love and positive thoughts to everyone, whether you are working/thinking hard or just enjoying relaxing0 -
Questions I would be asking myself is.
What extra would I get from doing it?
Knowledge, respect, experience.
How much time have I invested so far?
not a lot
How much time would I need to invest?
realistically I haven't a clue. I sort of think all my weekend - day times. and one night a week? there is a half term in the middle I could use.
Cheery_Daff wrote: »- why did you start it in the first place? Is that reason still there? If not, why not?
it makes me more employable and raises my status without adding to my responsibility - I like being a classroom teacher, unfashionable in some parts with the expectation of instant promotion.
- Why aren't you working on it now? Is it too difficult? have you asked for help? Who from? Or is it too easy? Is there something you could do to make it more challenging?
I don't honestly get it, but equally never really seat down and got on with it, there were many problems with the start of it.
- if you finish it, what will it enable you to do? If you don't finish it, what will it stop you from doing?
hmmmm. more respect, the knowledge gained would help my teaching, it would stop me from getting a job at a similar level of pay.
- is anyone else relying on you to finish? Or expecting you to?
nope.
- if you've not been doing it for a while, why haven't you given up already?
I keep thinking I will get round to it.
- imagine 6 months down the line if you don't finish it - will you regret it? Or will you be glad you had the time to spend on something else?
my time gets sucked away when at work, all I do is work.
- what other things do you have to do in the next 2 months? Because you can get plenty done in 2 months, but it's really not a long time out of your life to put a few other things on hold. What would you have to shift to make room for it in your life?
write reports, mark, prep exam kids, tutor, past a driving test, the rest of the garden, Mum, guinea pigs, fish, friends,
realistically if I got in to a routine, I could do it. If I made no plans for the day time at weekends and one night a week....but this has never worked before why would it work now?Firewalker wrote: »Buffy, I think what others said is correct. You will need to ask yourself:
1) Why did you start
cos it was free! Seriously I did want more qualifications and do like studying, I knew it would help me and I liked the idea of it,
2) What would this change (giving up or completing)
giving up would be depressing and if I am honest typical of me
completing, I would feel very proud and confident - much more confident about my abilities.
3) Can you live with the consequences of giving up (how would you feel as well as others)
angry, very angry.
4) What is the investment you have made so far
not much if I am honest, I attended lectures, made notes. didn't submit any work, was too nervous.
5) What really needs to be done
I would need to finish the current work, which I have started and do vaguely understand.
6) What are you busy with (are just busy or productive? would it be more productive to cut out some of what you are busy with and get on with the Masters).
busy, not productive I can waste time easily.
I generally believe that education and qualifications never hurt.

Thank you for letting me think aloud on here.
it has helped

Quite possibly because you haven't structured it properly.
To me it seems you have done some of the work but you're too nervous to submit it maybe that should be your first step submit the work you have.
You then need to make a list of everything you need to do to finish the course and then order them/break them down into easier tasks to complete.

I made a list today of some of the Frogs that I have need to do and whilst admittedly I'm now struggling on one I did manage to get 11 done this morning - of which I had planned the whole week to do. That now means I can start to break down the rest
Just as an aside - if you did just 10 minutes a day that would be 10 hours worth by July.2020 Mortgage-Free Wannabes #20 £1495.03/£2760 OP0 -
Hi all
Another lurker de-lurking!
I love this thread, have read it all this morning and have dipped back into the earlier ones too which are great!
Can I join?
Sounds like a great place to get some motivation to eat those frogs (yes, I've read Brian Tracey's book), which, tbh, I'm not very good atbut desperately want to get moving on.
I'm just at the end of 10 days leave, back to work tomorrow...for three days! But, I haven't done as much as I'd hoped so feel like I've wasted the time off. Something must be done, so I hope you guys can help spur me on...once I admit which frog I'm trying to eat!

A question...I haven't read 'The Secret' but have put it on my LF DVD list. Is this film any good or should I just get the book (I love reading, so no hardship there
).
I was thinking what I could do today 'to make my heart sing', and have decided to spend 15 minutes in the garden. It's a beautiful day and a shame to spend all day indoors ironing...I seem to spend a lot of time with the ironing board.
