Good luck G P , you seem to be getting off to a really good start despite starting your regime just before Christmas! I will be joining you in the New Year as I aim to lose a stone. I went out for a run with OH on Thursday morning and my legs are still aching! My plan is to eat healthily and do more exersize- its not rocket science is it , so why is it so hard to do! My own downfall is chocolate- if I could cut it out or down I know I could do it. I lost 2 stone 4 years ago but a stone has crept on:confused:

If I desperately want to eat something that I know I shouldn't really be eating, I will allow myself to eat it, but only if I eat an apple (could substitute any other fruit/veg etc) and have a glass of water first. If after eating the apple & drinking the water, I still desperately want it, I'll have it.

I'm trying to analyze why I eat the way I do and change my habits a little bit. If I have a plate full of food, I always feel like it's a bit of an insult to leave stuff on the plate. Maybe it's a throwback to being told as a kid that 'you can't leave the table until you've eaten everything'. Plus there's always the 'starving kids in the world' guilt trip too. I also find myself eating out of routine which is pretty illogical...surely you should only eat when you need to, not when the clock strikes a certain hour (although I do acknowledge that you a good way to lose weight is to eat lots of small, healthy meals at regular intervals rather than one big blow out).

Small plates are apparently a good idea, then you give your mind the illusion that you're having a big meal but you're actually having a smaller portion than you would.

Remember, muscle burns calories faster, so trying to build a little muscle rather than just aerobic exercise should bring faster results (although muscle weighs more than fat... it is a whole lot healthier)

I reckon I do about 75% cardio stuff in the gym, and about 20% heavier stuff, like bench pressing, free weights. the other 5% is usually spend trying to find a decent channel on the tv / drinking water / gasping for breath.

God yes! I could do with the moral support! Get yourself (selves?) psyched up and we'll start another combined thread if you like.

I can feel the earth getting lighter already! :rotfl:

hi greypilgrim, forgive me for being nosey, but is flamingmango.com your own website?? ... I had a poke around and came on some family pics (which I assume include you) and some pics of some deeply unconvincing transvestites (which I assume don't... though of course I could be wrong)

It is, yeah. Feel free to poke around. The transvestite thing I can explain. Honestly. Someone sent me a link to a transvestite website and told me it looked like a friend of ours (and oddly enough it did). But I couldn't stop looking around the gallery. (I'll probably get told off now for finding humour at people who have taken the brave step of expressing their innermost feelings). I admit its a bit wrong and not very PC to laugh....but I couldn't help it. Does that make me a bad person?

Oh great, I'll add "burly" to "stocky", "chunky", "portly", "big boned" etc etc :rotfl:

Yeah, couple of other people have mentioned the Ricky Gervais thing. Thats one of the reasons I had my hair shaved off. (also to hide the grey hair)

Hit a new low of 20 stone 5 pounds this morning which is 8 pounds down from the official 'weigh in' on the first of december. I know it seems like a lot to lose in just 12 days, but I'm thinking maybe that then I weighed in on day one, I was at the height of one of those rollercoaster 'blips', and this morning I happened to be at a low.

But I don't care - the up and down rollercoasters are generally heading in a downwards direction which is great. And the lack of lager is definately paying off too. As is the gym, and the badminton. And the walking. And the fruit.

I still crave a big mac though.
