My husband gave up his job due to our daughter nearly dying from from having infection after infection from scoliocis surgery ,plus shes disabled .
We are receiving income support ,we do not have to attend WFI and never have, because of my childs care needs.

But if you are okay going to them best of luck:)

They are mandatory for lone parents unless an exemption is granted, wattdallas.

If lone parents don't attend and don't have a good reason for not attending, they face a cut in their benefits.

Pipkin you do-not have to attend WFI if you are a carer of a disabled child whether you are a lone parent or not.:)

TBF, not everyone changed over, nannytone and many single parents are / were still claiming for their children on the IS system.
We've never changed over to CTC, my husband gets money for our daughter in with his Incapacity benefit which is topped up with Income Support. We did get a letter when CTC were first introduced saying that at some point in the future we would change over but it hasn't happened yet.

If you are claiming Income Support or Incapacity Benefit as well
as Carer's Allowance, you will have to have a WFI as a result of
your claim for those benefits. If this is the case, the relevant
    office will contact you.

If you claim IS as a top up to CA (but NOT a lone parent), you must attend a WFI every 3 years... unless..... you started your CA/IS claim BEFORE the Job Centre became JobCentre Plus (approx April 2004, depending on your geographical area).

Therefore, wattdallas.... did you make your claim before the change over?? If so, that is why you are exempt from WFIs.
Oops!! Should I have posted this??? Some users don't think I shouldn't be offering advice due to my occupation!!!

Surely if your receiving incapacity benefit then you cant claim carers allowance at the same time?

Really !!! All i can do is tell you that i dont, and many others i know dont.

Did have one, along time ago and took my child with me ,then was told i would not have to attend anymore and havent since.

Very confusing isnt it ,one rule for one and another rule for others :)

It seems crazy to many of us but actually you can.

Incap' like carers allowance is a work related benefit, therefore you cannot actually receive both at the same time but you can receive a carers premium which may increase or give an entitlement to a means tested benefit such as income Support.

    Example:

A couple both receiving a state retirement pension and small occ' pension could apply to be a carer for the other partner, if the premium doesn't exceed the allowance for a couple they wouldn't receive anything but may receive a little council tax/housing benefit as they would receive the carers premium/element but this would still be dependant on income.

Whereas a single person on IB claiming CA would receive the same carers premium and therefore if his income is less than his new allowance he would receive a top up of Income Support but once again it is dependant on income.
Forums can be/are a good guide to entitlement and it is good practice to back it up with clarification from the relevant department/specialist with written confirmation to safeguard yourself.
