If your wife is old enough to claim attendance allowance then she's too old for a transplant, the upper age for transplants is 60.

Very sharp jen, just hope the advice people give to his scenario's help others looking in.
Forums can be/are a good guide to entitlement and it is good practice to back it up with clarification from the relevant department/specialist with written confirmation to safeguard yourself.

I only know because I have the criteria running through my head constantly, that's what being a real transplant patient does to you.

Yes I know it is. She is seeing her consultant who is head of the Transplant team at Kings, his offices are in the Golden Jubilee Wing as well as the Gutherie Wing (which is for his private patients). It is the OP for Liver problems.

If you want to get technical with me, and I don't see why I should have to explain things in any more detail, I never said she was having a transplant did I? You jumped the gun a little there didn't you?

Her problem is associated with the liver, and it is that team that is and has been working on her. They don't just deal with transplants you know.

If you are that interested - take a look at the Kings Hospital website and a consultant by the name of Mr A Patel!
She has been seeing him for over 9 years now. She was 58 when she first saw him!

I don't like the tone of your comment, please change it!

I would love to know how many people Andy has on Ignore, and indeed the list of conditions he has ...

Can someone quote this please, just to make sure he sees. Thank you! ;)
    Gone ... or have I?

Unfortunately his conditions don't meet the criteria for DLA

Incap' like carers allowance is a work related benefit, therefore you cannot actually receive both at the same time but you can receive a carers premium which may increase or give an entitlement to a means tested benefit such as income Support.

    Example:

A couple both receiving a state retirement pension and small occ' pension could apply to be a carer for the other partner, if the premium doesn't exceed the allowance for a couple they wouldn't receive anything but may receive a little council tax/housing benefit as they would receive the carers premium/element but this would still be dependant on income.

Whereas a single person on IB claiming CA would receive the same carers premium and therefore if his income is less than his new allowance he would receive a top up of Income Support but once again it is dependant on income.

Thanks for the correction. I was thinking about the situation where two people get DLA and claim CA for caring for each other.

Why would your wife take up the time and efforts of a transplant team if she is not a donor and is incapable of being a receiver?

Anyone can google Mr A Pate but do you know the consultants first name (because as it happens I do).
