Well done on the sunflowers! I bought a few ready grown ones last year and all their heads fell off! Oh dear!
Hope you enjoy Zumba, its not the nicest of summer solstices today here

Hi, just found your thread after reading your post on the Matrix about the whole music thing - know what you mean about a difficult relationship with it from being 'good' in childhood - like you I'm just starting to enjoy playing again just for the sake of doing it :)

Sounds like you've had lots of exciting things going on.. and woohoo to sunflowers! :T

  • hi redquirrel, welcome :) it's a tricky one the musical thing isn't it! I'm really glad you are enjoying it again :j

    Woweee I am exhausted.

went to Zumba on Tuesday night and it was fantastic! I absolutely loved it! It wasn't what I would call easy, it was a very thorough workout but I kept up with all the steps and thanks to Davina, my fitness was good enough to make it to the end and give it some welly as well! :rotfl:

A couple of lovely friendly people made a beeline for me and a few other new faces, I had forgotten my water so someone offered to share, and all in all I really felt very included from the off. So I will be going regularly. The instructor rang me the next day to check I had enjoyed it and to apologise for not speaking to me before I left :) which I thought was a lovely touch (and very shrewd for business too!)

Best of all there will be a salsa class immediately before the zumba class each week, so I am going to do both - I love dancing, it will be a great way to get fitter and I think I will get to chat to people too this time (the last class I tried to join wasn't anywhere near as friendly so I only went once). And it is a regular weekday evening thing, so makes me feel like I have a life :D I've never done salsa before but have always fancied having a go.

So. Onto yesterday. My new harp was having a few gremlins but I got it fixed by finding a manual on the internet and asking a friend for some help with borrowing tools - a wobbly pickup bar meant the sound was only coming through the amp from half of the harp!

With that, I was extremely brave and went to the pub. It took me a while to work up to, but I put my name down on the list to play, and did a solo and played another song while a girl sang - we had only met for the first time last night, so that was a great experience. I got lots of cheers and applause, as did she and it was a fantastic night.

It was so good I haven't really processed it all just yet - I have had 2 nights of not sleeping well on the trot, so am glad that the cinema has been postponed tonight.

I may well be going to a band rehearsal later for a gig tomorrow night, if not, I will be staying home and catching up on the Apprentice. I am planning to go to the gig tomorrow regardless of whether I play, and it should be extra good as there will be a few faces there from last night so will be able to say hello and chat :)

Italy is approaching, I haven't practised anything I was hoping to take with me, but I don't care! I will go as a work in progress!

I have so many thoughts rattling around my little head, but know I am tired and buzzing and need to chill out a bit. The next few days will be crazy so I am looking forward to getting some feet up time where i can, and then really really looking forward to a change of scenery in Italy. THis time next week, my plane should be taking off!! :j :j

Great news on the Zumba, I kinda got put off it by seeing people 'performing' some of the 'moves' in the pub one night...
Glad you made friends there though, maybe I will give it a try.
And more great news on the Jam night, very excited for you :)

A little bit of bravery is going an awfully long way! You sound like you are having a whale of a time - I am so pleased for you. Enjoy every second of it. The jam nights sound fantastic. And Italy to look forward to! Keep it up, lionheartedgirl, you deserve all of this.

  • morning all :)

haven't quite worked out how to do multi quotes yet so here goes:

LB - zumba is great, i've never understood why people feel the urge to do stuff like that in a pub, but don't let it put you off! lots of fab fast rhythmic loud music so right up my street :D

hypno - thanks, it has been a busy couple of weeks and lovely as it was so unexpected but I am loving it, I'm eating much less junk and feel like a lot of progress has been made!

    Wordsmith - thank you :)

today is a bit of an odd one - my friend's wedding. I am really looking forward to playing for her, I am playing at the church as the guests arrive, then as she walks up the aisle and during the signing of the register, and then possibly while everyone mills round waiting for photos.

It is exactly one year since I received the awful, awful phone call that sent everything spinning, saying things were not as I thought and the person I loved and was 7 weeks from marrying was lying about pretty much everything. Things are very different now but it has been a very difficult journey.

I need to decide what to wear today - I have been approaching it as a harpist rather than a guest, and today I will be both, and I would dress very differently for each.

I found a beautiful Cacharel dress in the wardrobe which will be lovely, on the flamboyant side  :T but I think it will do well. Last worn for my brother's wedding 7 years ago, when things were a little more affluent!

It's a bit of a tattoo flasher so I would never consider it for 'working' weddings, but I have a shrug to wear for the church, and I don't think anyone will really care during the reception (that's if it is warm enough to remove said shrug, which it may not be as it's in a marquee and the weather here is somewhat autumnal! althought it is due to brighten up later :))

so. Brave pills on and hopefully I will have a good time. I'm nervous as I don't know anyone else, but I've had a bit of practice in the last couple of weeks so should be OK. I am looking forward to it really :)

I have known my friend since I started riding my motorbike again, she had just come out of an abusive relationship and was letting her hair down with fast bikes and cars. I was happily married at the time, but we were all looking for something in our own little way. She desperately wanted to be a mummy more than anything else, and she now has 2 gorgeous kids and her h2b is lovely.

I HOPE HE HAS NICE FRIENDS :D :rotfl:

have a fab weekend everyone x
