Party_Animal wrote: »Thanks, just tried the instruction for the 02 site, texting to 2020, same reply " sorry we have had problems dealing with your request for settings" I get this every time.
If I download to my pc how do I get it from phone to pc?
Thanks
Grumbler, sorry if I appear slow. I'm out of my depth here.
That's not what I advised you to do. I said to use the manual settings. (For avoidance of doubt, click on the MANUAL procedure NOT send to the phone. You will get a list of straightforward instructions what to press on your phone). As others have said, your handset cannot receive settings sent over the air so it is not a good idea to try.0 -
There are lots of different AP settings listed for o2 on the web, but here is one that seems to work for some:
APN: payandgo.o2.co.uk
Proxy: Not set
Port: Not set
Username: vertigo
Password: password
The generic settings are on the O2 site, they will work on all non-blackberry handsets.
APN: payandgo.o2.co.uk
Username: payandgo
Password:password
(It also lists the proxy settings 193.113.200.195 if you have an app which needs to go via an http proxy)0 -
Thanks DAVb, done this, its just saying the name field can't be left blank. What do I type in there? There are lots of different AP settings listed for o2 on the web, but here is one that seems to work for some:

I presume if you are setting up a new connection it needs a name - any name will do, but use something meaningful like o2 Mobile Web. Otherwise, edit the existing o2 APN you have.Party_Animal wrote: »Thanks DAVb, done this, its just saying the name field can't be left blank. What do I type in there?

Cheers Dave, done this. One thing I've noticed is it says "server not set"
Should something go in here?
Plus I can't download the ap that tells me if the phone's a type 1 or 2 before I go through the process, recommended by Grumbler above, as I've no connection.
Can anyone tell me how to download to pc then flash it to the phone if the phone has no internet connection and no software
Thanks0 -
Party Animal, I'm not sure why you don't want to follow my advice from Page 1 of the thread. The full instructions as to what to type are in the Mobile Guide on the O2 site. It works, I know it. does because I've done it.
Goto the mobile guide on the O2 site.
Select a similar Android handset.
Click the Settings tab.
Click the blue button marked manual , next to where it says Pay and Go.
Follow the manual instructions exactly.
I don't know how to make it any simpler, there's no need to debrand or download anything to your PC. Should take no more than five minutes.0 -
Thanks techead. I've tried doing exactly as you say. When I go on the 02 site I can't see anywhere where it says manual settings just to text or enter my number.
I've just been looking again at the settings on my phone. I notice that in settings where it says" My Phone Number" it says unknown and I think that might be the problem. I can't see how I can input it but shouldn't it read it from the sim. People are texting me on that number so it works.
Thanks again0 -
To be fair to the OP, this advice is a little vague.Select a similar Android handset.
*I think* any HTC android settings will do the job, e.g. Desire:

Grumbler, thanks for your patience. I have followed the above HTC settings to the letter. The internet is now trying to connect. The Orange page comes up but whenever I try to click on the BBC for example I get " webpage unavailable"
I'm still puzzled why under "status, my phone number" it says "unknown" And still when I try to log onto google mail, it says "validating phone number" and then "try again later"
Thanks0 -
We have an OSF unlocked on Tesco mobile (uses o2) which works fine. It does definitely display the phone number under status.
Sounds as though you have a deeper problem than just settings - what do the other status items show, such as Network and Mobile network type.
Other things to check:
Take out the sim and then reseat it.
Are you sure the phone is unlocked properly, and that the o2 sim is definitely 3G.
The easiest check is to try a different (not Orange) sim just to test it, and see if the number displays etc.0
