Thanks the only problem is I can't get online to download anything. It wont connect. The only options I can see are;
1) get an Orange rolling 30 day contract £15, then cancel after 1 month and after downloading what I need to root it.
2) top up the giffgaff card.
Thanks to all for your help.0 -
Have you sold already the sim that came with the phone?
If so, you can get a free PAYG sim and if it works download via WiFi.0 -
Download what you need to root & flash it with on your PC, you don't need the phone to do that.Party_Animal wrote: »Thanks the only problem is I can't get online to download anything. It wont connect. The only options I can see are;

Thanks, please bear with me, you're dealing with someone with very little techie knowledge. How do I flash something to the phone? Do I need to install software? There was no cd with the phone.KillerWatt wrote: »Download what you need to root & flash it with on your PC, you don't need the phone to do that.
Thanks0 -
You don't need any credit to connect to WiFi.Party_Animal wrote: »I still have the Orange sim but the credit didn't last two minutes.
Also, I don't have OSF and am no expert in 'flashing', but one of the links I posted for you was to the giffgaff forum:
Orange San Francisco >> http://orangesanfrancisco.co.uk/
I know, you have a habit not to read the replies.With Google Android 2.2, the Orange San Francisco / ZTE Blade benchmarks and compares against phones that cost up 5 times the price, including the Samsung Galaxy S, HTC Desire, Google Nexus S and the Apple iPhone 4. Follow our guide to Install Froyo on Orange San Francisco.

Thanks again
Obviously, he didn't know what he was doing. Those settings from modaco he found for you are the contract Mobile Web settings, which clearly won't work. (and are incomplete anyway!)
You don't need to debrand or flash any firmware, you just need to follow the straightforward instructions in the mobile guide on the O2 website. They are written for a non technical person and you'll have no trouble if you follow them carefully.0 -
Thanks, just tried the instruction for the 02 site, texting to 2020, same reply " sorry we have had problems dealing with your request for settings" I get this every time.
If I download to my pc how do I get it from phone to pc?
Thanks
Grumbler, sorry if I appear slow. I'm out of my depth here.0 -
There are lots of different AP settings listed for o2 on the web, but here is one that seems to work for some:
APN: payandgo.o2.co.uk
Proxy: Not set
Port: Not set
Username: vertigo
Password: password0
