I know the phone is bought then unlocked and working on Giffgaff for some users and thats O2 network .
I think the majority here use it on giffgaff.

I an no expert, but as someone posted at HUD recently:

"...these phones are incredibly 'individualistic'. Bugs, problems or program issues that affect one phone may never be experienced on the next. The Modaco forums have plenty of these examples."

Thanks, the 02 guru tried this and it didn't work

I'm sorry but that's codswallop. The APN settings are the same for all non-blackberry phones. All that varies is how you enter them. If they don't work then they've either been entered incorrectly or the Guru tried use Pay Monthly instead of Pay and Go or vice versa.

Honestly, there is no magic involved. Carefully follow the instructions I gave you and you'll be up and running in minutes. (I know because I've done it)

    I am here to help.
The OP is well aware of giffgaff because he already posted in the giffgaff mobile network thread.
In that thread I replied him with the links to giffgaff:

Thanks, but we did exactly as you said, he tried PAYG
He seemed to know what he was doing, unlike me
    Thanks again

Ive got my OSF running with my O2 iphone sim in no problem but i flashed it which was very simple ive since done my daughters & her B/F.I'd say flash it & you'll have no trouble with it on O2.This the guide i used

I use OSF with GiffGaff card which is O2 but I flashed it, using the website in the post above. Please note that the website above recommends Japanese Jellyfish ROM but it seems that FLB Froyo and Cyanmogen 2.3 are more popular at present.
(to flash means to reinstall operating system of the phone which is called ROM, wiping everything that was on the phone).
  • I agree i put on FLB Froyo which seems the best one so far,ive since put on a few other to try but went back to FLB Froyo.
give it a go nothing to lose.

I also have FLB Froyo, I hear it is best for battery life.

I think its probably something to do with the way Orange lockdown their ROM.

Even when using an Orange SIM I think it is only allowed to connect if mobile network data is on... Orange Apps will only connect through mobile network not wifi and I found that my gmail wasn't able to connect though wifi as well so it was impossible to dowload anything from Android store either using wifi.

I too followed the instructions on http://orangesanfrancisco.co.uk/ to unlock and update to the recommended Android 2.2 ROM and everything running sweet with Orange SIM wifi only and O2 SIM wifi and mobile data.
