jenniewb - I was thinking the same thing...and if any Facebook fans told their friends (or liked the notice of the promotion on Facebook - which would mean all of their Facebook friends could see it)...who told a friend....and even if no one else knew about it - would there have been enough then?

I get what cazzap06 is saying - but it was posted on Hot Deals and elsewhere as well...Origins could have set it up to control it more closely if they wanted to...sorry, but I think it's naive to think you can post something like this on the internet (especially via Facebook) and think that it will remain within the confines of that little corner of the web.

Maybe Martin should never mention anything ever again...seems he's always doing something wrong in the eyes of someone?
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?
  • lol I think it was fine it was posted on HUKD but they don't send an e-mail out to 5 million people!! ;) ... Or put it on TV ( of all places! )

I think the announcing it on TV when he didn't even know how many they had to go round or whether THEY were aware HOW MANY people would know about it via MSE e-mail and TV once he announced it was the straw that broke the camels back really you know!

Some stores only had around 40 ... All I'm saying really is I think Origins were NOT AWARE it was going to be broadcast on TV OR that an e-mail would be sent out about it to 5 million people as THEY obviously knew how many they had but DIDN'T know it was going to end up on TV or sent to millions of people

Martin should have TOLD them or actually ASKED them as look how it has affected their staffs stress levels , let alone people who have gone out of their way or queued up for nothing...

I just think he should have asked them if it would be ok or notified them at least ( Then they could have said ''NO'' don't broadcast it to THAT many people please as we don't and WON'T have anywhere near enough to go round )

Only the absolute tip of the iceberg of people actually got one ... And who created the bulk of this iceberg? ;)

I was disappointed to get to the only Origins counter in Sheffield at 12.20pm yesterday (John Lewis) to be told they'd ran out. I know that product giveaways go very quickly - but on this occasion my expectations had been raised by

"The Origins press office hasn't confirmed how many freebies are available but we've been assured there are plenty and shouldn't run out before Friday."

This statement also shows that MSE had permission from Origins to share the deal - so I don't see Martin is at fault here - I do think Origins underestimated the impact (and I wonder if MSE could've helped to stress the impact of them sharing it?)

I went on the Origins website yesterday afternoon to feedback my disappointment, and at that point they were promoting a "free sample" for everyone who returned a skincare product to the store - I've just check and it's not there now - but I took screen prints (as most MSE's would!!!!) - and in my feedback I did say I was also disppointed not to be offered the sample as a consolation! (maybe that would have been a better positioning for this promotion - X number for those who get there first, and a free sample to give to the later comers.

What's also a bit annoying is that I work flexi so can arrive at work anytime up to 9.30. John Lewis opens at 9 every week day - so I would have gone before work - except on Thursday it opens at 9.30 - typical bad luck.

Oh well - it always helps to be able to share the frustration.....here's to moving on to the next fabulous deal which I'll no doubt find out about via MSE!
  • They wouldn't have had enough samples for everyone ;)

( Probably why they removed it from their website - Then it would be peeved off customers PART 2 if they didn't get a free sample coz they'd all run out! )

I went to see if I could get one, I wouldn't have even bothered trying as I couldn't get there until late in the day but since they were confident that they wouldn't run out before Friday, I thought I'd try it but of course they'd all gone. No staff anywhere to be seen but they'd put a sign up saying "sorry, we've run out"

Even if it hadn't been in Martin's email and on TV, I think Origins must have known these would go pretty quickly(after all it's a full size cleanser worth £16) and if some stores only had 40 of them, they were never going to last until Friday.

Thanks guys, it was a nice bonus to come back to this and find it had been useful after all :)

Obviously a bummer for regular origins fans (like me!!) who haven't managed to get it though :)

You didn't get one yourself? Oh what a shame. :(:(:( What store(s) did you go to? xo

I wish I would have checked the board before we trooped into JL Oxford Street after work...could have saved that hassle. :(

If Origins were contacted in advance by MSE (which it sounds like they were) to enquire about quantities - and they assured MSE that there was plenty and they wouldn't run out before Friday...what is it that Origins
And I would think that if origins are proud of their products then it's a good idea for them to distribute them beyond their normal customer base. The main reason I started buying origins products was because a friend gave me an origins set for christmas and I really liked it. I suspect some of those who get the freebie cleanser will come back for more. So it will be worthwhile for them in the end.
thought would happen if MSE was contacting them about it?

I don't begrudge anyone who got theirs...I'm a big fan of Checks and Balances and was super excited about this...I'm sad I missed out but for those who were quicker then I'm happy for them. Except those who only got the freebies to sell them...them I'm not terribly happy with. :)

Maybe I'm very naive, but I hope that people don't sell them. :o

As for the 'should he/shouldn't he mention it' debate :money:, I think that the important thing is for Martin to make these companies aware of the audience of the weekly email AND Lorraine so that they can decide whether they have enough stocks to cope with these offers. I have no problem with him mentioning it if he wants to.

BUT if it's a deal that will go really quickly (like this) and there's very limited stock available, it's not really worth mentioning it on TV. All it does is cause huge hassle for the staff involved and a lot of wasted trips for hopeful customers.

A little common sense is all that's needed. :)

Just wondering: how many "friends" do they have on facebook? if all of them took up the offer without anyone from MSE/Morning TV joining in, would they still have enough?

    Anyone got any numbers?

7,000 apparently. There would have been enough for the 7,000! :rotfl: I'm signed up to Origins and did receive the email :T, but only after reading this thread. So thanks again to belfastgirl23, and commiserations to everyone who missed out. :(

There are already a couple on ebay I think - different packaging to the normal ones.
