Yep, that's pretty much the point I was trying to make. As I said, I may not have explained it well enough as it's not just playing noises as that's fine, but it's when they are screaming in a closed in communal garden that things get bad. And as eco says the parents dont seem to be bothered what they do as long as they are out of their hair.

Communal garden? Nice weather? Well in that case I'd get out there yourself for a spot of naked sunbathing...after all you want an even all-over tan! I suspect you'll find the parents will pull their kids inside in double quick time in those circumstances ;)

Children cant win these days can they... if they play in the garden they are a nuisance to other neighbours and if they are on the streets they are a nuisance to everyone else.... if they sit in on playing computers they are obese
If its a communal garden then i really dont know what you expected - its hardly anti social behaviour is it, i take it you never made any noise as a child? If its that bad i would move, be warned the hot weather is here and holidays approaching like wildfire, the noise will only get worse and every little bit of noise they make will make you more agitated

Now that really did make me laugh... thanks for that!!! :D

@ others who tell me that children make noise - I know they do, and as I said in previous posts there are other familes in the block who use the communal garden to play with their children yet all of them put together dont make half the noise that this one family's kids does!

As eco said, I dont think some people can understand unless they have been through it themselves. You are probably all imagining your well behaved kids playing in the park laughing and giggling wondering what the big deal is... I do wish these kids were like that. But they shout and scream blue murder all the time - big difference! :(

p.s. I do love the 'well you should have bought a house' comments... If I could have afforded it, I would have but in case people arent aware mortgages are a bit hard to come by at the mo and house prices in London are also a big high... *sigh*
We have to live within our means - well, some of us do anyways!

I have a lot of sympathy for you as I would be very agitated if I were in your situation. I completely understand you need your peace and quite sometimes.

i think you need to chill... I know some kids who scream all the time... some do some dont... get over it, they will get older soon.

If they are swearing and making you cringe... then thats anti social... bit different.

I like when im in my house, its quiet its detached thats what I pay through the nose for... thats my choice... its my choice as I have lived in flats and had noisey neighbours and would never like it again. if I can help it.

    hope it sorts itself out...

Its the parent fault... its a shouting game... when i talk to kids I talk to them ... not shout at them! then when i tell them to stop shouting, they know why!... happy kids are not shouting kids... feel sorry for them, dont persecute them... think of what they have to put up with in the house. It might help you think differently.

OH DEAR................oh my god!!! kids make noise.

i was a nutter as a kid..i climbed anything and everything and was a wanderer, its just kids, as my house is always full of them at this moment there are six of my daughters friends all making a racket upstairs..just get on with it.
It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.

I can totally understand why the OP gets annoyed at this.

All the sarcastic responses along the lines of 'kids playing, can you believe it?' are totally missing the point. Just because something is 'normal' does not mean it is not annoying.

Roadworks are also sometimes necessary as a part of living in an urban society, but if you had the pneumatic drill outside every weekend you'd quickly go insane. Now I'm not comparing noisy kids to a drill in magnitude, but frankly the shrieks from a young child playing can be pretty annoying and disturbing. If it's outside your kitchen windown it could be like trying to have lunch in a school playground.

Unfortunately there isn't much you can do I suspect. Maybe the neighbours from hell forum has some suggestions, but generally noise regulations only apply to noise late at night or caused by abnormal living patterns.

When it comes down to it this is an issue for the parents to resolve. I would be making an effort to be reminding them each and every time it goes too far. They will certainly start to dislike you, but if you make the point of ringing their bell or phone every time then they might get the message on a more permanent basis. Or you could always start pumping loud music if they are adjacent to you - if they ask about the volume point out that it's only high enough to drown out their own children. Or you could tell the kids off (verbally) to frighten them into quietness potentially.

Have you thought about buying some of these https://www.amazon.co.uk/Pairs-Howard-Leight-Laser-Plugs/dp/B0007XJOLG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1303230871&sr=8-1

They really work well at reducing sound considerably.

As a Parent, I know it's absolutely IMPOSSIBLE to keep kids quiet!!!
I try to keep them occupied through the holidays, which can be really expensive. Too many hours in the summer days, which means they NEED to let out to play in the garden.
