Wow... that was quick. I have to say I am not surprised at the responses to be so negative and understand why people, especially parents, think I am moaning. But as I have said I dont mean kids just playing in the garden having fun, I mean they are constantly screaming at eachother while standing just inches from each other and running around as if it was a playground. Of course children should play in a garden but imagine having a flat with windows that open onto an area where they constantly screaming at the top of their lungs. Just think of what that would be like before you post a response to this.

I'm not gonna argue with people on here as I've seen threads get over taken with petty remarks and just get long winded. But the fact of the matter is the children are creating constant noise in a small communal garden which is applified by the acoustics due to the surrounding buildings. Where should they be taken? Well, there is a common just over the road which is where I would take my children as it's more fun, lots more to do and much bigger open spaces.

And just to bring things into context, it's quieter to be in a park full of kids rather than this garden which I do when the weather is nice enough just to get away from the noise.

I don't think children should get away with doing anything they like (i have my own) BUT i have to say..did you not think when buying a flat...with many other flats and a communal garden that there would likely be many children playing there?
I don't know the full extent of what they get up to, but if it is just running round the lawn, chasing each other, laughing squeeling then i think you are going ott.
Now if they were screaming, swearing, breaking stuff and spray painting the ground then i say you have a case. But other than that...you bought a flat, in a block. You should have thought about these things before you bought.
If you start fighting with others in the block you are going to get yourself a bad name..and if you start annoying some 'interesting' families, that might be when they try and annoy you back.

you have to suffer it to understand it. i own a house and the 2 either side are rented, i've been there the longest and before anyone say's move, why should I, the tennants in those don't think there's a boundry wall or a fence they think if there ball comes in my garden it's perfectly ok to trample my plants to get it, and I understand the noise and the parents been nowhere in sight, that's why they send them out, they don't want to be pestered they think it's the job of the neighbours to keep an eye on there kids.

When we were kids we were told to go to the park if we wanted to make a lot of noise and not disturb the neighbours and as for running into other peoples gardens whenever to get a ball that was a no no, my mum would have had a fit if we were a nuisance, but that doesn't count these day's kids are allowed to do what they want when they want and no can tell them otherwise. My hope is all the people who thinks it's reasonable to listen to that kind of noise on a daily basis and not complain get the same thing themselves in a few years cos they'll change there tune fast enough.

Yep, that's pretty much the point I was trying to make. As I said, I may not have explained it well enough as it's not just playing noises as that's fine, but it's when they are screaming in a closed in communal garden that things get bad. And as eco says the parents dont seem to be bothered what they do as long as they are out of their hair.

I take your point and understand there was a risk of that happening but we were informed by the previous owner that the kids hardly made a sound but I guess she would have said that. Yes, I do take your point that if I start annoying them then they might start annoying me back too and as I said the guy did try to kick in one of my neighbours doors. But does that mean in our society we should just put up with things and let the bullys get away with what they want as they use violence and have no respect for anyone???

I wouldn't like the noise either, from that aspect you have my sympathy.. but these are kids yes? Kids make noise, you can tell them to shut up if you like, they might for about 30 seconds, but they'll soon start again because they have short attention spans...

But if a little bit of generic kid hyperactivity is the worst of your worries, then you're probably over reacting a bit to be fair.

Exactly, wait til the alcoholic insomniac with a penchant for death metal at full volume moves into the flat above the OP. Now that's something to complain about.

Its a communal garden? Wait until the kids have gone to bed and get lots of mates around for a quiet party with BBQ, beer and so on.

Keep the music down as it cannot be deemed as getting out of hand, but keep it going for as long as possible. And as many nights as possible. Invite all the neighbours too.

Yeah, did try telling the kids politely to keep quiet but the parents got annoyed as it was explained to me by the mother of another family in the muslim culture it's down to the dad to disapline them as the male in the household. FYI - her kids play outside and I dont have a problem with them as although they shout, they dont scream all the time like the other family's kids does.

And again, some hyperactivity would be acceptable but they are constant from 10am till 6pm.

I personally really dislike children as a rule, but I know that unless I have the money to buy a nice remote house somewhere I have to put up with their noise. C'est la vie

If you want your own private garden to do what you want, then you should have bought a house and not a flat.

If you've noticed an increase in the noise over the last week or so... that's because it's the Easter Holidays. With all the bank holidays coming up, it's not going to get any better.
