For those of you who haven't yet bought your tree, the artificial ones are reduced drastically before xmas. Last year, having put up our 6 ft, 10 year old and looking spindly, artificial tree on the saturday, I mooched into B&Q on the sunday (ie a week before xmas day) and picked up a £90 tree for £24! It's 7ft high and about 6 ft wide - takes our whole bay up
I have about 250 lights on it and it looks fab.
I was told that B&Q don't want any trees hanging around by boxing day so they sell them off early. By xmas eve, they may have been cheaper but I don't think the tree I bought would have been available. Worth a look though.0 -
I bought some lovely deccies and lights from B&Q just before Christmas last year and some even cheaper after too which will go on the tree this year.
Ali started a thread a while ago on here about looking for a new artifical tree after hers went to tree heaven but she hasn't come back to say if she found it.

It has to be a real one for us. It's only been in the last couple of years that we have not been stretched where money is concerned but I never did compromise on a tree. From the beginning of November I put any pound coins in my purse into a pot and that pot was the christmas tree fund. However much I had in there was my budget for the tree. One year I had £30 in the pot but the tree cost us £5 from the bargain corner. We splurged on some extra bottles from Bargain Booze
Organised people are just too lazy to look for things

I hate real trees, the make a mess and are way too expensive. The pine needles would drive me insane. We paid £90 for a 6ft artificial tree 12 years ago and its beautiful, and will keep doing us year on year.
Yesterday in John Lewis they had a chocolate brown tree - it was gorgeous and is apparently their best seller this year.

A true MSEr would save both the environment and money by buying an artificial tree in the January sales

Sorry, but I don't agree that buying an artificial tree automatically "saves the environment". Would you care to elaborate?Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac

I tried real trees a couple of times, but, apart from the expense and waste  , was always disappointed that they looked so....well......pathetic. They never looked like the Christmas trees in films etc, so we bought an expensive 6'6" artificial tree a few years ago for £99 that looks so realistic that people are always fooled. It has cantilevered branches with thick 'foliage' and pine cones here and there, and the diameter is about 4'6". It will look good for many Christmases to come

Fake. Real ones are expensive and messy, and the needles are not nice if my dog stands on them.

Resisted the temptation of the real tree as I don't think I cpuld cope with all the needles, bought an artificial fibre optic one, but I was tempted and there is a little regret now, but my dog likes pinching baubles and chewing them which isn't good so only got hanging things on my sons tree upstairs. One day I might be more organised...........
