Real or Fake?

Hi all,
Just wondering whether to buy a real or fake christmas tree this year. Artificial ones are around £50 for a decent one and the cheapest real tree is around £20. Also i am thinking about the environmental issues of having a real tree.

What do you think?

I guess in terms of saving money, you'll be able to use the artifical tree year after year, where as the real tree will have to be thrown at the end of the year (or chipped up and used as mulch in the garden)
Not sure where you've seen a decent artificial tree for £50, but I've seen 6ft trees for as little as 9.99 in tescos to name one shop.

I had seen the £50 artificial ones in B&Q...but will be heading on down to tesco !!

I agree with what stevenshell said, they also have artificial trees in Asda for £9.44? under a tenner anyway, they're really nice when decorated, I've got one myself

no probs Zippy - When I saw £50 for a tree, I thought - what insane place charges that amount! :rotfl: Saying that, I bought my tree about 7 years ago from Studio - 6ft, with decs for £20 and I still have it - it still looks good, and in reality, by the time you add the decs, lights and all the other christmas tack, it doesn't matter if it isn't a great tree underneath!!!

Plus with real trees - think of all the pine needles that go everywhere!!!!!!

I got a real one with roots for 18 quid last year. PLanted it in the garden and it died but everything died in our garden. Overwhelmingly Id have a nice green rooted proper tree that lasts for years, best of both worlds!

I keep trying to persuade DH to get a real tree.
We bought an artificial one from argos last year, £25 and it's a really good one, looks really thick when all the branches are opened out.

No tree is going to survive being brought inside a warm house for a couple of weeks then planted out in the middle of winter!

My gran was looking for a fresh new christmas tree and a trip to woolworths with their 3 for 2 promotion got

1 tree (I think 5 ft) 9.99
1 assorted packet of baubles and tinsel 9.99
1 pack of white LED lights 14.99

Total cost £24.98 for the whole shebang

We bought a real one last year, with roots and just put it outside in it's pot. Try putting it in a sheltered spot, ours is in the lee of two house walls. It's still going and will be brought in soon.
